Team Birkie Revived

Dear Nordic Ski Enthusiast,

Team Birkie is a name many skiers will remember from the 90s. Steve Gaskill and many other Midwest legends started a multi facet Nordic program to develop junior, senior and master athletes. A group of passionate Nordic skiers have decided once again use the name Team Birkie in the pursuit of excellence.

I want to extend an invitation to be a member in this newly formed master’s race team.  The idea behind the creation of Team Birkie is two-fold.  One: to provide master skiers with the same access to equipment, waxing, technique work and race support as the race winning elite athletes and two: provide direct support for elite athletes attempting to achieve higher international results.  The need for this support is more important now than it ever has been with the USST and USSA dramatically cutting their funding for top level athletes.

This year, Team Birkie has amassed a number of great sponsors.  Gear West and The Fix Studio will be providing equipment support and top-notch race support as well as great discounts.  Also, I will be providing very pointed technique sessions to team members throughout the season as well as open workouts.

Please join me as a member of Team Birkie as I continue to prepare for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Mission and Goals

2011:

• Establish master program for 10 master skiers
• Develop an athlete sustainability program
• Generate corporate interest and sponsorship
• Scope and define goals, strategy and requirements for 2012 

2012:

• Recruit and develop additional athletes
• Expand masters program
