Elm Creek Series Results
Conditions: Temperature: 37F, light rain to drizzle, moist/wet; snow conditions on the course are different at different sections of the course; great race condition!
John Hopkins credited his winning to his fast skis. It is a great night to test out your wet skis; classic tracks are holding fairly well with very few areas that one needs to step out. Jim Smith also took out his new skis for testing. The race course is 3 laps of 2K Valley Trail loop.
Race distance: 6K, both classic and freestyle, mass start.
Freestyle(F)/Classic(C)

Tonight’s race is the 2011-2012 ELM CREEK RACE SERIES season opener! It was beautiful spring-like skiing. We are not sure whether we are wet from the drizzles or from our own sweat. John Hopkins pulled away from the group from the start and cruised to the end. When he saw a target coming down the Donut Hill, he put down the hammer. The closer competition was between Alex Hickman of Ramsey and Tim Hieb of Ham Lake. Though the race series has been known for its low key nature for over 20 years of history, it is a great weekly ski play. In the classic race, race director Melinda said to me that if I want to get closer to Jim Smith, I’d better do more dips and pull-ups.
Great to see you at the kick off event of the season. Hope to see more skiers out there next week. Elm Creek is great!
