Midwest Juniors Day 1 Review
Reid Lutter shares these Midwest high points from the first day of racing at Junior Nationals:
- Yesterday was the best sprint day the Midwest has ever had based on Alaska Cup point totals. (262)
- The Midwest is 2 points from second place, something we have not seen since 1998.
- 18 of the Midwest kids in the heats outperformed their qualifying place in the final results, and three of those that didn't still placed in the top 10 (Watts, Saxton, Galvin) a remarkable percentage,
- Once the conditions changed to 45 + with water in the tracks the far and away best skis were Zero's, and only 17 of our athletes own zero's. The Midwest team (and many other teams), were swapping Zero's around so every kid could get on them. This of course resulted in some kids on skis that were too soft or too hard for them, since they weren't their skis, which results in poorer ski performance.
