First off I would like to make sure everyone is aware of the the upcoming fall coach’s association meeting which will be held in Mora at the Vasaloppet Training center on October 27th.  We have a few important items to take care of at this meeting.  We need to elect members to take on a few leadership roles for our organization.  I have talked to a few people that are interested in stepping up and taking on one of these roles, but I would like to officially get volunteers or nominations so we can take action and elect a President-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and a couple of advisory board members.  If you are interested or would like to nominate someone for one of these roles please email me at [email protected].

We need to look forward to see where we as a group would like to see our sport move in the coming years.  With the results to the 5 by 3 state meet proposal poll last spring, we currently do not have any pending proposals on the table for discussion.  With that being said, if there are state meet proposals that members would like to bring up and act upon at the fall association meeting those will need to be forwarded to me in the next couple of weeks.  The advisory board will need and little time to act on them and give us enough time to get the proposal back out to the membership two weeks prior to our fall meeting.  If there are any proposals, please email them to me so we can get things rolling and be able to act upon them at our Fall meeting.

Lastly and maybe something that may impact us the most this year, is the requirements the MSHSL is enacting this year for all coaches.  This year all coaches working at the Varsity or JV levels must complete the Coach’s Education requirement under the “Coach’s Clipboard” located on the High School League website www.mshsl.org.   Every coach must also attend a rules interpretation meeting starting this year.  Most sports have an online version so the coaches can take care of this requirement wherever they have internet access.  Nordic skiing does not have this luxury and we must attend an actual meeting.  Currently there are three meetings scheduled that will satisfy this requirements.  The first one is will take place at our fall coach’s association meeting which will be held on October 27th.  The other meetings will be both on October 31st.  There will be one meeting at Robinsdale Cooper and one held at the Marshall School in Duluth.  Both meetings will start at 7:00pm.  I am currently working with Rich Matter at the MSHSL to see if we can make this a little easier for our coaches to satisfy this requirement.  Once I hear the official word back from the Rich and the MSHSL I will pass the information on to the membership.  At this point though plan on having all coaches working at the JV and Varsity levels attend a rules interpretation meeting this fall.
