Skinnyski.com High School Rankings - Week 6

January 27, 2014

Commentary:

Tough week for ranking data.  With the Mount Itasca JNQ races last weekend, many top skiers altered their racing schedules to prepare.  The top two ranked girls, Vivian Hett and Mattie Watts both had to pass on the JNQs as they boarded flights for the Junior Nordic Competition next weekend in Finland (both skiers are expecting to return in time for sections).  And as usual with the winter months, some skiers have been impacted by illness.

With that setup, we made very little changes to the rankings.  Rocci Wohlk moves up to third, improving each weekend and posting some strong results in her last three JNQ events.  Sean Cork appears to be recovering, notching some good numbers at Mt Itasca, and when combined with some aggressive skiing by his St. Louis Park teammates, they hold their fourth place ranking. We swap Margie Freed and Anna Johnson this week, as Johnson works through some illness (watch for her to bounce back).  The second half of the Wayzata girls crew, Nicole Schneider makes the cusp with Michaela Keller-Miller probably deserving to be added soon. A bit more shuffling in the boys rankings -- still very fluid in the lower half, but the top three boys, Ketterson, Gardner and Hipp, seem to be separating themselves from the field.

A number of conference championships this week, then sections are up next week already -- we'll have a sections preview before and then final rankings afterward.
