Mesabi East 2025 FAQ
- I want to bring my team up on Friday where can we ski?
Unfortunately there will not be an opportunity to preview the course on Friday. The alpine area will be open until 8pm, and then we will be grooming the race course after that. We want to be sure the course sets up for the race, so no night time practices. Early Saturday morning the race crew will be setting up the course and marking it. We will have course inspection from 8:30 -9:45 the morning of the race. Currently our Nordic trails have a thin icy base on them. We are doing our best to maintain these trails, but Rock skis are currently recommended. - What will the course be/look like?
We are planning approximately a 2.5 km course across the base of the alpine area. This is the same course we used for the 2024 MSHSL state championships. Athletes will ski the course twice. A tentative map of the course has been posted. We plan to set the classic tracks the night before, and also leave a (small at times) skate lane. We do ask all coaches and athletes to be careful during course inspection to not skate over the classic tracks. We will then re-groom the course after the classic race to remove the tracks for the skate race. Classic Wax testing will have to take place during the course inspection period. Warm up areas will be south of the race course down by the Helsinki and Chamonix chairlift. Once the race starts, athletes will have to walk through parking lot D to access this area. - We want to stay and ski after the race, what would that look like?
The Alpine area is re-opening at 4pm on Saturday. The course will be closed at the completion of the race. The best bet for skiing on Sunday would from the stadium over to the south end of the alpine area or on the Nordic trails with Rock Skis. Please be aware that we do host the MYSL group on Sunday afternoons in the stadium.
