Racing under mid-winter conditions at Maplelag, over 50 skiers participated in the Lotvola Cup race on Saturday. High school skiers ruled the day as Bemidji's Tony Sagedahl and Irondale's Mattie Watts topped the field. Results up along with photos for both the ski race and winter bike race.

Nearly 70 skiers competed Sunday at Maplelag Resort in the annual Lotvola Cup classical race. Lars Ellefson won a close battle over Wynn Roberts to take the overall victory. Berit Ramstad Skoyles completed a weekend sweep in taking the ladies title. With snow falling during the race and temps in mid 20's, it felt more light early February than March. Warm weather and slushy snow resulted in some very slow conditions for the annual Lotvola Cup race at Maplelag Sunday. Jake Richards completed the weekend 'Resort sweep' taking the victory Sunday to complement his win Saturday at Rainbow Resort. The race was a tight battle of roughly ten skiers in the lead pack right up the final kilometer. Johanna Winters was the top woman finishing fifth overall, less than 30 seconds back. Freshly groomed trails after the warm up earlier this week provided excellent conditions for the annual Lotvola Cup race at Maplelag Resort Saturday. Once again this season, the Roberts brothers Conrad and Wynn swept the titles. Conrad was pushed by Leif Ronnander who set a blistering early pace and hung with Conrad to the finish. Wynn went the old school route, strapping on wood skis to win the wooden ski division (and finish 11th overall). College of Saint Benedict skier Taylor Ellison posted the top womens time. After 48 hours of ever changing weather forecasts, the Lotvola Cup racers were greeted with a last hour snowstorm that dropped a fresh 1/2" of snow across the perfectly groomed trail system at Maplelag. Owen Baird, Lars Ellefson and Joe Dubay formed a lead trio before coming down to a sprint to the finish line with Dubay edging out Ellefson by a second. For the womens title, Ingrid Leask and Summer Ellefson had a similar dual, with Leask taking at the end. Photoset up now along with full results.

Absolutely perfect conditions Sunday afternoon for the Lotvola Cup: the course was well packed and tracked, the sun broke out around noon, and temperatures were hitting the upper 20s. Wynn Roberts followed up his second place Governors Cup race on Saturday, with a flying victory at Maplelag today. Ingrid Leask lead the womens field. Nearly 120 skiers lined up on Little Sugarbush lake in front of Maplelag Resort on Sunday afternoon for the Lotvola Cup classical race. A light mist continued to fall most of the day, which helped to glaze the tracks providing some fast glide and somewhat tricky kick conditions. Owen Baird sported rocket skis to glide to the overall victory. Margie Nelson kicked through the packs to collect the womens title. Soaring temperatures and a mix of corn snow and just plain wet snow made created tricky waxing conditions for the Lotvola Cup on Sunday. Over 100 skiers participated in the event, many racing in t-shirts or tank tops. The mens race turned into a cycling race as a lead pack of about eight skiers sprinted it out over the final rise with Phil Rogers edging out Chris Ziegler for the win.
