Classic skied Ridge Trail loop yesterday afternoon. In the thick pine areas there was enough snow remaining for decent stride, though with no tracks. In the open areas, especially on south facing slopes bare dirt was quite evident. Managed to move side to side, sometimes gliding a few feet on one ski to miss dirt and avoid damage from dirt/stones/rubble.
As of Thursday, I would advise not even trying to ski. Many more open dirt areas just on the few hundred yards I walked from the start. Unless winter somehow comes back I think we're done for the year. Anyone wishing to do so is welcome to walk the trails.

I went out and rolled two skate loops and three classic loops this afternoon. About four inches of powder. Nowhere near enough to set a track, but it is skiable. Where loggers were working until mid-December there is some lumpy, bumpy going. Here and there on all the loops there are patches of stubble sticking up, mostly soft stuff that we couldn't mow this year because of the logging operations. With no track set both classic and skate skiers can use all the loops I rolled with the rear pan down, whether they are normally signed for classic only or skate only. Give it a try while it lasts.

Like practically all other trail systems in the Northwoods, Razorback trails are closed. Lots of bare ground, and what little snow remains is rock hard. If and until we get adequate snow all loops are open for hikers, but even they should take adequate caution on icy downhill sections.

Finished rolling all loops today. They are all snow covered but not enough to set a track or produce level, good skiing. I'd stick to rock skis and take great care. On the classic loops I have finished clearing almost all summer briar sprouts and other growth I normally mow in fall but could not this year because of logging operations on both north and south portion of trails. On the skate side I have cleared Will's Crossing, Ridge Trail and Roller Coaster. Very little left to clear on Mary's Frolic. Lots of weed whacking left to do on parts of Long Rider. Bruce's Roundabout is pretty clear of litter. Expect some lumpy, bumpy skiing on sections of trail where logging operations didn't end until mid-December.

Things are not good at this time. I have rolled all loops except for long rider and bruce's roundabout. Major logging projects that lasted from spring through Mid-December on both ends of the system have really put us behind the 8-ball. The loggers did grade most of the trails where they had put deep ruts and lots of logging slash in the trails, but cleat marks from the bulldozer have left a bumpy surface under the rolled snow. A section about 300 yards long on the last inbound section of trail was not graded as the loggers had not pulled out until the ground was frozen and un-gradable. Bottom line, most of the classic loops--no tracks are set, and I have not panned them yet--could be called skiable, but I would use rock skis and take extra care on the steeper downhills. Also, since I could not get into the trails for regular maintenance all summer and fall there are some stretches with un-mowed vegetation poking through. About all I can say is that it will take a lot more snow to get things back to normal. Have patience.
