2023-2024 season

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Some light snow flurries yesterday put a coating on the base remaining on our trails. There are still old Classic tracks visible, just step around any thin spots. Crust skiing off the trail is actually great now that temperatures are down in the 20's each night. It was good to be out with full sunshine early this morning. Not April's fool.

Perhaps the last hurrah at Valley Spur, but I have been saying this may be the last time for several days and we are able to keep going there. Today, we found an inch of powder over slick ice on the course at the main parking lot, so decided to try the upper parking lot (at the W and Y trails) where we figured we could double pole all the mostly-flat terrain for an hour. If you are like us, and really love track skiing, you can get in a nice time of it there and do not have to double pole it all. However, expect some ice sections and some really hardly-any-snow-in-the-middle sections, but those mostly had side lines we could double pole through, and wow we also found a some long beautiful sections of nice snow for lots of V2 and nice swingy leg skating! The D trail will not make beginners on ice very happy today, and if the temps warm up the ice sections will become gigantic puddles, but anyway we saw Peggy and Joan out there happily classic skiing as well, and a few more cars in the lot and those skiers' skate marks in the new snow. So, although the tracking was nill, the trails were fine enough and we did not have to take off our skis any place.

We still have several inches of frozen base left after rain earlier this week. After an inch of flurries Tuesday night skiers were able to classic ski in the left over tracks Wednesday morning. One can easily step around any thin spots.

3-4" of wet heavy snow last night, so classic skiers were out. There was enough of an outline of the deep set tracks from Sun to follow them. Peggy has a fire in the Lodge and lot was plowed.

Another full groom this morning. Very good skate and classic. Today saw a good turnout of skiers after a full parking lot yesterday. Stay tuned to see if we make it through another warm spell.

All groomed for skate and classic with couple inches of fresh on top. Beautiful, albeit slow, conditions. Few sticks and thin spots but really good coverage with fluffy snow.

Entire system groomed earlier this morning after a few inches of snow overnight. Classic tracks were very good using a little Blue Extra. Light snow falling this afternoon, so look for some great conditions through the weekend. The Lodge will be open Saturday and Sunday. Check out picture heading into Worel's Woods.

Conditions are very good here. Grooming plans: Valley Spur Friends have committed to a full groom Friday evening. It should be a great weekend of skiing.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
John C had set some classic track Mon on B, D and Y. There has been lake effect snow last night and all day today. Morning skiers had skied in the old tracks, so nice classic skiing this afternoon. Skins were working well. Grooming plans: John C will be heading out in the morning to do some fresh grooming.

3-5" Of new lake effect snow over a variable base of mostly ice, some old snow and some bare patches. Everywhere we skied had complete coverage, never felt any rocks or other debris underneath the skis. Skied in tracks set by several other people who had gone before us.
