Trail Detail
Notes
The Piedmont trail has 5k of trail for beginning and intermediate skiers. This double-tracked trail leads you through both aspen, birch, and hardwood forest. Handmade signs made by a skier in the Piedmont neighborhood and a beautiful overlook of the St. Louis River Valley are the unique features of this trail.Trail Reports

Seems like one of the last days of the season. A few bare spots but easily avoided. The fresh snow made the track a bit faster but wasn't a speedy ski by any means. As has been mentioned, the beginning of the trail and the section that goes by the neighborhood has many many footprints all over it. Overall I enjoyed getting out despite the bumpy slower ride.

It was scary this morning as there's ice under the light snow covering. I only lasted 20 minutes and fell once. On a positive note, it felt good to be outside and the gentle snowfall was pretty.

Piedmont has no bare spots, timing was perfect as Goldilocks would say, "tracks were just right" fast, not scary and the snow on the sides was soft so I could snowplow when needed. Some of the tracks had sunk in places and if is crunchier you could catch on the edges. No debris at all. Unfortunately someone took an Easter stroll right up the tracks until the Puff Puff hill on one side and then to the end of the last hill before you return to the parking lot or another loop. They obliterated the tracks on one side and the other side is pretty beat up too with 6 inch deep prints on the last part of the trail. Maybe the city will freshen it up while it's still cold?

The sign along the trail said it all "What could be better than this" with 18-24 inches of fresh snow and newly groomed trail. I guess we needed the US National Cross Country Ski Championships to bring on winter. Thank you Duluth Park and Rec for grooming all of these great trails.

Snapped into an old pair of crowns and gave it a shot after work. Snow is wet and slow, fairly bumpy, with a few icy patches in low areas but overall I was impressed. There are a few rocks and some bare ground coming through but nothing too terrible and easily avoidable (better coverage than Hartley imo). I skied the whole trail - big hill and Evel Knievel were not my fav in the dark but I think I would have been okay in daylight. The 1-ish km skate loop is pretty solid. Some foot traffic that dips into the track a few times [because why not!?]. Rock skis because I don't want anyone to yell at me :).

All the trails are open. I only skied the 1.4k easy loop. Everything appeared groomed, with complete snow coverage, but still not enough to set a good track. The tracks were very shallow to non-existent. It was packed well though.

Not groomed but plenty of snow to ski! Beautiful morning with just a couple of others skiers out. A few sticks and rocks here and there but easy to spot. Enjoy!

Ungroomed but definitely skiable! Skied 75% of the trails. Beautiful frosty morning. No cushion if you fall! :)
