Started at the southern trailhead, skied about 7 miles in total, out and back. For the most part it was an enjoyable skate. Some skier-made tracks. Glide was good and it was easy to edge. Coverage was mostly consistent, though a lot of debris and vegetation sticking out in parts. A few of the hills were fairly bumpy, but not as bad as some of the other trails near Rhinelander. There is a bridge/boardwalk where coverage is not so good -- I recommend taking your skis off and walking, not the least because your pole tips could get stuck between gaps. There is also an odd flat part with a bunch of vegetation that is not skatable; I had to double pole through it.

Like Nose Lake and Washburn trail systems, Cassian received about 1.5 of snow. Today marked the first activity on the trail. Look for a shallow deck, about 2". Expect some vegetation poking through the deck, along with thin spots. At this time use rock skis. Another substantial snowfall should allow us to begin setting track.
