Trail Reports

2023-2024 season
Reports 1 to 5 of 5    Month: Jan

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skier made tracks on deep snow, not groomed. All trails are open for skiing. Don't be put off by the skid steer tracks leaving the parking lot. They are removing downed trees and shrubs at ground level in the woods where they create a fire hazard. And they are avoiding ski trails whenever possible. Hikers are avoiding the ski tracks except for a couple in a few places. Note that Turville is one of several Madison Parks that does not require a ski pass and is groomed later. Benefit is no crowds, lots of solitude and some great lake views.

I did not see evidence of grooming. Nor does the City website give a date for grooming. Tracks are set by other skiers. For the most part hikers are avoiding the tracks. A few twigs and leaves out there. Full snow coverage. No signage by Parks to not hike on ski trails.

Classic track mostly in good shape. Minimal debris with a handful of spots "broken" or worn thin. Some downhill corners icy but manageable. Saw a handful of other skiers, but it was pretty quiet!

Not groomed as of 11 am this morning but beautiful and plenty of snow. Follow the ski tracks and you are fine.

[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Not groomed yet but skiers have set a track. Hikers have been out but not ruined the ski track, yet. The short "prairie loop" up top is good snow depth about 5 inches and pleasant to ski. The trail along the lake got the extra moisture and warm and areas are bare ground or thin and icy, not skiable. Some of the wooded trails are passable, but only fair.
