Notes

Some of the best trails in southern Minnesota. Tucked in the valley behind the school, the trails run around the northern slopes of the valley making them quite challenging and also well protected from the sun. Some lighted sections, and snowmaking operations.

Trail Reports

2023-2024 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 14    Month: Jan | Dec
Friday, January 26, 2024
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Fog light rain 34. Ufda, there is still snow, if you know our system you will know what trails hold better snow. But you'll need rock skis to pick your way there. Soft/icy/sticky all the above. Classic track the same. If we happen to get a 25 degree morning maybe we could scratch something. Not to enjoyable to me right now.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Great to get out today with the temperatures warming up above zero in the afternoon. All trails have good coverage. Snow is firm and fast. Patches of natural twigs and brown snow, but definitely not unavoidable and not hindering to skiing. Several options for good distance workouts. Even after the race today the skate deck and tracks were firm. The Nordic Club social tonight was on point. Lots of great donations to allow for the further enhancement of this great venue.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails are money folks. There are a couple minor sprinkles of dirt but easily avoided. All tracked, some tracks are older as we're maintaining a thin base. There is a small high school race today (Saturday) on the 5k loop but the trails are open. Expect increasingly faster conditions as the temps warm.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Jeff and I worked up the trails today. A very few spots of dirt mixed in but avoidable. The classic track is holding up well but there is some debris adding up. Fresh corduroy skied much better today.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Everything leveled and tracked again Saturday night (except Rattle Snake as it always needs a little more snow to groom out really nice). Should be firmer now but still slow given the temps. Classic should be money nonetheless Sunday. Enjoy the fact you're using hard kick wax.

8-9" of snow in Winona. All trails rolled and packed. Track set 90% everywhere. Soft but will get better. Lots of happy skiers!

Morning
Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial, Bare ground ]
We received 1 1/2" of wet snow, not enough and too wet to roll. We have a very small manmade loop in Yon's that this snow will help. Maybe mother nature broke the ice though and we'll keep getting more.

Morning
Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
Still hurry up-and-wait mode in SE Minnesota. The trail maintenance crew threaded the needle with a few temperature windows to lay some man-made snow but Mother Nature just needs to cooperate more to make even a small loop.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails: Closed, Bare ground ]
We're back to ground zero. We'll crank up the snow guns when temperatures allow but not looking great. Do your best snow dance and then dance harder!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
After much Tilling our small loop came back to life. Much like skiing on a snow cone but waxing isn't an issue. Park in Yon's.
