Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
No grooming since the equipment has been put away for the year. JT and I skied in a classic track to 6 Corners and about halfway down White Pine to the Brule River. We did an out-and-back so our trail had four passes on it. A great work out busting trail. Get out and enjoy the beauty.

The trails were in decent "early" season condition with recent grooming. I skated most of the trail system and observed great conditions on the forest roads that makeup the loop and a mix off soft, thin and undulating deck with trouble spots easy to predict and see. This is why I rated it rock skis. I stepped in the tracks a couple times and they felt firm but also had thin spots. Thanks to the groomers for the recent grooming.

I skated 5k today after the trails were groomed and partially tracked. There were lots of soft pockets on the deck as expected due to the wavy conditions prior to the grooming and still wavy conditions experienced after the grooming. The cold temps may help firm the deck but the track is marginal so expect thin spots under pine trees with some grass and leaves. The fat bike trail has been ridden in nicely.

Skiable! Expect some debris and a few exposed rocks. Trail is bumpy. No classic tracks. Where is our snow?!

There was enough snow to skate throughout the rolled trail system, although the ground is uneven and undulating and there is not enough snow to form a track for classic skiers.

I skated the River View Loppet race route Friday. The deck was firmer on the trails near the chalet and less firm and more wavy on the trails further out. The DNR was out grooming and not rolling the trails but they were unable to use the knives on the groomer since the base is too thin. The groomer did smooth the deck considerably. Expect thin areas especially under pine trees. I used B skis but would recommend rock skis if you plan to venture out on the back trails.

Brule received 2" on Tuesday evening. I rolled most of the Tuesday night. The trails closest to the chalet have the best base. No tracks yet.

We did 18K today with some grass poking through. The nearby trails are good, but the further out trails are a bit rougher. If you are doing only 10K you could use B skis, but if you want to take the full tour I would suggest rock skis. It is rolled and ready to rock.

It was great to get out the day after our first significant snow! Thank you! Maple to North loop to Aspen was open, with some debris but not many sticks. Exposed rock on the difficult entry, so stick to the easy entry.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Tonight both Oak and Spruce were rolled and cleaned up. About 10K has now been rolled and combed in the last few days. The temperature has helped firm the trails nicely.
