Great afternoon of skiing at After Hours! Great grooming everywhere. Sally's classic is groomed perfectly. I love the new section of this trail. It meanders around a wave-cut bench of Glacial Lake Duluth near the Brule/St Croix outlet, so very gentle ups and downs, with nice gentle curves cut in the new trail to give it a really wonderful flow. You get to nearly circumnavigate a beautiful pond/bog. Just below freezing, tons of snow, Swix extra blue gave plenty of kick, as the snow cooled down nicely last night.

Enjoyed an early morning ski on Sally's Classic Trail, which had been groomed the afternoon before. The track had some soft spots, but was otherwise well-groomed on gentle terrain. Since the skate lanes were being groomed this morning, Joanie and I then skated numerous trail segments. A highlight was the River Trail, which featured some nice views of the Brule River, along with the sound of rapids. The skate lanes were a bit soft, since several inches of snow had fallen on the trail this week. We really like the variety of this trail system, and there are plenty of kilometers to explore.

The classic trail was groomed and tracked to perfection. The other trails had about 2" of fresh on them.

Trails were well groomed, it was a wonderful ski. Skied maple, oak, white pine (red pine and nebagamon not yet groomed), little Joe, river, aspen, spruce, balsam, and the difficult return. Thank you groomers!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Everything is open, but some trails were not yet groomed. I skied there on Friday and the groomers were out working a bunch of new snow and clearing downed trees. Sunday, I classic skied and it appeared that all the main trails were open, packed, and tracked. Sally's was not groomed, yet, though. Part of it was packed, but nothing was tracked yet. There is plenty of coverage at Afterhours and using your primary skis should not be an issue at all.

Beautiful ski today, trees covered in snow and sun was shining. All skate trails seemed to be rolled and groomed over last two days. Fresh groomed skate deck this afternoon. Still soft and a lot of work to ski but still good. Classic track was set, firm enough and felt fast. Overall great condition following the big snow. Great job DNR! Don't forget to drop a donation in the box for Brule Valley Ski Club to keep the grooming going!

The trails were in surprisingly good shape today, with very little debris, such as pine needles and small sticks, in many areas. Track has been set and the deck is firming up nicely. I'm grateful for all the hard work that's gone into getting all trails cleared, opened up, and groomed following the heavy wet snow of a couple weeks ago, and additional new snow that continues to fall. I loved the new stretch of classic trail along the small lake. Nice job!

After skiing the trails today I touched up the skate deck this afternoon and tried to groom out the ice chunks and ruts. Some sections looked fantastic but expect pine needles and and some sticks.

With the help of Cala from the WIDNR we were able to groom and track all the trails today, including the classic trail. All trails are open but expect some pine needles and sticks. There is still some occasional overhanging brush. Happy New Year!
