Trail Detail
Notes
The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.Trail Reports

Freshly groomed after yesterday's snowfall. Track and skate deck setup solid with cold overnight temp. Temp was -7F when we started at 8:30am. I selected B skis because of occasional dugup leaves in classic tracks, but we used our best classic skis and skied right through the small amount of leaves. The skate deck is good skis condition.

Winter wonderland with new snowfall before and during our ski. Skied north from OO about 10km on classic trail and returned to OO. With soft new snow, we enjoyed the trail and scenery. Classic tracks were skied in by others over the new snowfall. We used our best skis. We did see some grass poking through tracks in a few isolated spots, but overall great coverage with new snow.

Amy and I skied from MTV in Cable to the Birkie Trail and the Birkie Classic, and then cut inwards to the old Telemark trails (past the cabin, Tony Wise, John Bauer, World Cup, etc.). Skate deck was super firm, tracks were solid. With all of the wind the previous night there was quite a bit of debris on the trail, mostly avoidable, mostly just twigs and the like.

Skied from start to Highway 77. Trail was in surprisingly good shape. Skate was groomed from start to gravel pit. Gravel Pit to 77, even though not groomed, was very skiable. The 2-4 inches of new snow made for good coverage through out the whole trail. The recent wind did blow some debris on the trail but I had no problem using good skis. Things are looking up!

Fit in a quick ski this morning at Mosquito Brook out to B hill and back. It was not yet groomed, but Hayward got about 2 inches of snow overnight so I wanted to check out the trail. There's better coverage on the trail than I expected, definitely skiable and will be a good base for more snow. There were still some places where I was hitting leaves under my skis, but overall really happy with the trail conditions!

Classic skied 20.73 miles of hill climbs today on the snowmaking trails. Excellent conditions. Firm tracks and skate deck. A little fresh snow. Just the training day I needed. Thank you Birkie team for giving me the opportunity to push myself! Beautiful.

I skied the entire Birkie Trail this week. I tried to take pictures to give a representative sample the the current trail conditions. Here are my pictures from Wheeler Dr to Lake Hayward on Friday. Trail was unskiable except for a couple very narrow tire tracks. Access to the lake was blocked. Trail might have been groomed once. Most snow was deep in the middle ridge of the trail about 3 inches of mashed potatoes.

I skied the entire Birkie Trail this week. I tried to take pictures to give a representative sample the the current trail conditions. Here are my pictures from Gravel Pit to Wheeler Dr past Hatchery Creek on Thursday. This was by far the roughest section of the trail. There we a few unskiable areas. The main ones were the hwy 77 bridge, the downhill after the bridge, and one other downhill just before the Hatchery Creek trailhead. After hwy 77, the trail is mainly mashed potatoes with minor groomed areas.

I skied the entire Birkie Trail this week. I tried to take pictures to give a representative sample the the current trail conditions. Here are my pictures from OO to Gravel Pit on Wednesday. The trail definitely has rough spots. One downhill grass patch took me down. After that I took much more caution on the downhills. The first few km of this section was fast hard packed base.
