Notes

The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.

Started at noon from Mosquito Brook heading South. First tracks and only tracks from the Brook over the top of Sunset Hill and back. 2-3" of cold wind blown powder over a very firm flat trail base was amazing. It felt like a David Norris solo breakaway all day! Just saying! Thanks Birkie groomers and organizers to another exemplary year on the trail!

A perfect ski day on the Birkie Trail. Skied OO North. Perfect tracks, even the wind didn't disturb them too much. Been 5 years since skiing here, will not let that happen again!

Who'd have thought that skiing would be perfect after St. Patrick's Day? I skied the loops south of Hwy OO. There was fresh snow last night, groomed this morning. It was windy, but no serious drifting. I give it a 10.

Birkie Ridge: Wonderful skate skiing on both the field and topside loops. Classic track looked excellent as well.

Skied from OO to Mosquito Brook and back. Conditions were fantastic! Freshly groomed with a beautiful skate deck and a nice deep firm classic track. Must be what it feels like to be leading the Birkie on fresh corduroy with no one around.

The skate and classic trail north of OO was freshly groomed, no tracks due to grooming for the fat bike race, but skating was excellent. Fast and fun.

Nordic Ridge community groomer laid a twin corduroy snowmobile track on Birkie Ridge. Both classic track and skate are very soft but much better than mid calf powder. Big thanks Steve.

I classiced the Birkie trail between the start and OO while my husband skated partway out and back to car and picked me up. Everything has been groomed up. Half of skate deck that was groomed first was icy with bullet-proof corduroy. Deck on the track side firm and edgeable. Coverage is good for both classic and skate, trail is very firm and fast and tracks glazed. Some debris on edges.

Social Media has Birkie Trail back open. Looks like they ran PistenBully couple of passes at OO - did not see tracks but they informed trail back open. Remember will be closed after Sunday midnight for race preparations.
