Trail Detail
Notes
The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.Trail Reports

Skate skied on the man made loops at the Birkie Start. Very fast solid snow! Some detritus on them and can mostly be avoided but you may not want to use your best skis. Tracks for classic look good and many were in them.

This morning I skied classic at the trailhead in Cable, on the loops with man-made snow. The grooming was excellent and most of the loops had tracks. The tracks were clear and fast except for one spot where a little gravel showed through for about 10 yards. The skate deck looked great.

I skated south of OO this evening. The trails had been groomed recently around the trailhead but there was not a classic track set. The skate lane was level with good coverage. Some of the trails had a few brown spots and B skis seem like a good choice. The lights were on and the warming house was open.

After our fluffy snow yesterday, our Trail Cru was able to groom from OO to Mosquito Brook, and from OO to BTH (skate trail). We were not able to put down tracks as the base is too thin. 1/4" base, we recommend rock skis. At the American Birkebeiner Trailhead in Cable the snowmaking loops are open with great conditions, ready for good skis - approx. 4km!

Grooming [ Trails Open: Partial, ]

Birkie Trailhead is groomed for skating. We did get a little bit of a dusting to soften up the top layer of our snowpack. Grooming plans: We will make snow as we are able and continue to keep our Snowmaking Loops in good shape. See you on the trail!

Went to Hatchery Creek trailhead to check if the recent dusting was enough, it was not. Lots of rocks, grass and leaves poking through. Groomed deck is all but gone from the warm weather. We put on hiking boots instead and cleared sticks, branches and logs on trail that were down from the recent wind storm. No sign of any ski tracks at all, just fat bikes.

Great skiing where they make snow. I hope they eventually open the other trails like the one with the roller coaster because I don't ski there often. Great firm deck and tracks for the rest of it though.

I skated the Birkie Trail north and south of Bodecker Road. There was good coverage, trails were level, and offered good control. I used my B skis. There were a few brown and thin spots. The classic track was set as well. Classic skiers reported they recommend their B skis as well. The Classic Trail was not recently groomed.

I skied south from Mosquito Brook, using fishscale waxless. The trail was groomed yesterday and lightly travelled since, so conditions were excellent. Only one side was tracked. A few leaves and twigs in the tracks and on the skate deck were no problem. Last year there was a satellite toilet at the trailhead but I didn't see one today.
