Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All the trails were groomed for skate and classic today. Snow was getting soft by the time I finished but the tracks were mostly fully formed and the skate deck is in good shape. 100% coverage with some scattered icy/slushy spots mostly under the pine areas. Grooming plans: Next grooming will most likely be after the next snow event.

Skied the purple late afternoon. So very nice. Temps were around 35-37 degrees. Skating looked excellent. Very little debris still. Saw hikers walking right on the tracks, I kindly directed them to the hiking trails. I really hope we can keep these trails going. Thank you groomers!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Tracks were in fair condition, with some being shallow and a few wet spots starting to appear. Snow was soft out in the open and more icy in the woods. Still good snow depth though. Looking forward to a few more outings this season!

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied blue, green and part of silver. Given the freeze / thaw cycles...best to ski after snow warms up going forward. It was a bit icy (as expected) but as day warms it should be a great deck. I wanted to do a a large shout out for all the volunteers who groomed the trails in one of my favorite places on earth -- willow river state park. This year was a battle...deep snow, rain, ice. I am thankful for the work you do. Birkie was great this year...and I bet I speak for a lot of birkie skiers from the st croix river valley -- you are a big part of our training and we are thankful we can ski right here in our backyard. Enjoy the spring skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Re-groomed everything. The skate deck is excellent. Re-set classic tracks and they are at 90% depth. There is moisture in the snow, so with freezing and thawing it could get icy in the mornings over the next several day, softer in the afternoons.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As expected, the warmer snow groomed up nicely. We were able to knock down the pesky berms, level out the skate deck and set new classic track. All of the trails were groomed and tracked. Hopefully the predicted freezing rain won't be too nasty.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The big dump of snow on top of a slick, icy base resulted in challenging conditions for Willow's groomers. The extremely dry, cold snow was pushed around by the groomer rather than packing down and setting up overnight. This has resulted in very soft conditions with uneven skate deck, berms, and areas mushy classic track. The hilly Silver (Nelson Farm) Trail was especially difficult. The tracked UTVs frequently had to be winched up the icy hills. It was gratifying to see so many skiers out today enjoying the sunshine and blue skies in spite of less-than-ideal conditions. We plan to regroom and reset track on the entire system Sunday afternoon. Hopefully waiting for warmer temperatures will add moisture to the snow making it more amenable to grooming and result in better conditions. Meanwhile, if you're planning to ski Willow on Sunday, you might find the best conditions on the Red Trail, as it gets less skier traffic than the very popular Blue and Green Trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trails all freshly groomed after the big snow earlier in the week were in great shape and plenty of skiers were out enjoying them. Classic tracks couldn't have been better. Skied Purple and Green trails.

Had another enjoyable ski with friends today at this beautiful park. Blue sky, fresh snow, and temps in the 20's. What's not to like? Snow was soft and sometimes lumpy on the Nelson Farm Loop. I always question why this very hilly loop is 2 way -- it seems like would be safer to keep this a one way trail only. Oh, well that is my only complaint. I do love the scenery in this park; and I have skied here multiple times this season.
