Firsthand: Classic

Skied the full loop Thursday afternoon. It was a little icy in spots, but honestly not too bad. Leaf litter was a little more of an issue, but that would only be for very short sections, like going into the falls area from the silver trail. Somebody should tell those oak trees that they're supposed to drop their leaves in the fall like the rest of their friends. Ran into a group of 25 students from UWRF who were there skiing as part of their Outdoor Adventures class. That made me happy, and they all looked like they were having a blast. Godspeed groomers, and we appreciate your magical wizardry!

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied the green and yellow trails, classic tracks were a bit icy and there was some leaf litter plus a bit of drifting out in the open, but still decent conditions considering the lack of fresh snow and the warm temperatures the last two days.

Maybe not the best skiing trail conditions of the year, but still a damn fine day to be out on skis. A lot better skiing than it seems like it ought to be with temps as warm as they've been! Just a little bit thin in some places, and with some trail litter starting to build-up, footprints well under control.

Skied classic for a couple loops before the heat wave and they were a lot better than I expected. A couple sections with some leaf litter, but that's about it.

Beautiful day and great trails! Good coverage, a few small spots of dirt or rock poking through thin snow on the edge in the sun, easily avoidable. Only one section in the woods on silver where the debris was a challenge on the skate deck, otherwise minimal throughout. Nice to be out in the warmer temps with light up until almost 6 pm.

Skied the Purple trail and the loop across the Willow River. Deck very firm and tracks were a bit icy even after the snow this weekend, but not too fast. There were a few thin spots with a bit of dirt starting to show though.

Perfect skiing with the new dusting of snow. Debris here and there but definitely good cover. Tracks looked great.

Trails were groomed and as another skier noted, somewhat "marbled" skate deck. Nice to be able to get an edge. Some gravel starting to show in spots on the west end climb up silver. Overall good coverage and the debris has been knocked back to a very reasonable level. Thank you groomers, appreciate your hard work to make these trails great to ski! Awesome to ski down by the river, seeing all the ducks, geese and occasional swans. Abundant deer every afternoon, a shock of adrenaline when they cross the trail in front of you descending the rollercoaster :) Beautiful cold day and beautiful trail system!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails ere groomed today skate and classic. Classic tracks vary from shallow to full depth. The skate lane groomed out somewhat marbled but is softened up. The only rough spot is a couple of bigger rocks sticking out on the yellow trail steep downhill going towards the mid level parking lot.

Hard and fast, rutted and uneven in areas. Hills are getting scraped down, can be hard to get an edge at times. Good coverage still, quite a lot of debris in spots. Hoping the groomers can work some magic in the next few days and smooth things out.
