Trail Detail
Notes
Trails range from easy, such as the Purple Trail running along the Willow River, to the challenging Brown and Silver trails. Trails are groomed for both classical and skate skiing. All grooming is done by volunteer groomers who pride themselves in providing the best possible conditions.Trail Reports

I skied both Saturday and Sunday at Willow River. Trails were generally pretty good. There are some very thin spots but they are generally avoidable. Blue has one bare spot at the bottom of the downhill. Yellow has some bare spots going up and down the big hill. Brown, green and purple were very good with no thin spots. Red has some grass poking up through the snow but otherwise good. Orange was pretty icy. Did not ski Silver.

The system has been freshly groomed and there is a firm smooth skate deck with some bare spots. Tracks have not been set as the snow is still too thin. Now keep in mind that the trails have not been closed to hiking yet, so be prepared for footprints on the trails. The best chance of avoiding damage from hikers is on the red, brown and possibly purple trails. As the weekend progresses, there may be heavier foot traffic on the blue and green. The forest around the silver trail is open for hunting, so wear orange on that trail or avoid skiing there.

Grooming [ Trails: Closed, ]

All of the ski trails were rolled last night and today. The ski trails typically remain open to hikers until the end of deer hunting season on December 15th. At that time the trails will be closed to hikers and signs will go up posted for skiing only. Hunting is allowed on the north side of the river and is not allowed on the south side trails. People can ski the trails but just be aware that they are still open to walkers. The current rolling of the trails is to help prepare a good base for additional snowfalls and the official opening of the ski season.

Spoke to the park staff and they reported that the trails have been groomed but no track set. Also trails will remain multi use (my words not his) until the next snowfall.
