Due to the rain/freezing rain currently falling, we will be closing the park today. Safety is our number one priority and this weather will make traveling to the park hazardous. Trails can be easily damaged with these wet, soft, and warm conditions. Groomers will head back onto the trails as soon as the snow dries out and temperatures drop back below freezing. We have a good trail base though, so hopefully this weather won't affect the trails in the long term.

Conditions were fantastic at Winter Park today! Skate deck was hard and fast with great edge control. Damn near perfect.

Many trails were re-groomed early this morning so the edge control was much better than yesterday! Skate decks were faster than classic tracks due to the freshly falling snow, so I spent most of my ski honing my out-of-the-tracks technique. Still a beautiful day to be out on the trails.

Greased lightening! Mighty fine classic ski with sticky waxes. Mostly the flattish inner loops as my need for speed has decreased with each passing year and they were just fine. I had a chat with the Co lead groomer and was informed that they have eight groomers, and while they don't redo the whole system each night, they have that capability. Just like ski selection is critical, groomer tools also play a part in happiness, and they have a large toolbox.

Firm corduroy with good coverage and control. Some glazing from freezing rain made trails exceptionally fast. Great day of skiing w nice scenery as well. Kudos to those who keep up this iconic venue!

Skated Base Loop, Nosedive Alley, XC Express, Creek Trail, (proximal) Steeplechase, Mellow Meadow, Island Hop, and Silver Strider. Full coverage, solid skate deck with minimal amounts of loose snow on the heavily used trails, residual corduroy on the others, and traces of debris (left overs from squirrels?) very occasionally only. Tracks looked excellent throughout. MWP remains in excellent shape.

We skated Base Loop, Tornado, (distal) Survivor, XC Express and Silver Strider. All are in excellent shape, with a firm skate deck lightly covered with fresh corduroy providing good edging. Classic tracks looked excellent as well. No forest debris. MWP is in great shape.

I arrived around 1:30 pm with temperatures around 24 degrees. I like skiing the long out and back loops like Lake Marie, Wolff Tracks, and River Run. According to the grooming board, most trails had been freshly groomed. However, the only one of the three I prefer that was groomed Wolff Tracks so that made my decision easy. There was still a good couple of inches of fresh snow on the trails that had been groomed today which made for slower going. I skate skied Creek Trail out to XC Express and on to Wolff Tracks. On the return, I did a quick look around Mellow Meadow. Overall conditions I would rate as good.

Groomers are back on the trails! They started early this morning and hit up many of the interior trails and one long one: Wolf Tracks! We got a few inches of snow over the last day or so and the conditions are looking great now that the temperatures have dropped a bit.

We were a little too close to the rain/snow line during yesterday's storm and ended up with about an inch of sleety snow. While we could see a bit more throughout the day, the temperatures will be too warm for the groomers to head out onto the trails. Equipment can really damage things if brought out when the snow is so wet. Groomers will try to head out tomorrow morning once the temps drop.
