Trail Reports

2023-2024 season
Reports 11 to 15 of 15    Month: Apr | Mar | Jan

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Conditions are thin, spotty, partially skiable and not ideal for skiing. Trails under trees still have snow that is firm and well-compacted. Bare ground is peeking through areas fully exposed to sun. Expect to have to get out of your bindings and walk around some areas, especially as the warm temps continue.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
We classic skied the Forestry Center today and it was really nice! The trail has been rolled a couple of times and that in combination with the lower traffic and work they did there over the summer made for a really smooth trail, not bumpiness like so many other trails have. There was a quarter inch or so of new snow and then the sides were untouched so we did a mixture of making our own tracks and using the existing ones. No scary spots, nothing was like concrete like many other trails are from all the use and no new snow. A slight bit of pine needle debris in one section but nothing that stopped us. I used my good skis, ground is completely covered with real snow. Some people have been taking advantage of the absence of groomed tracks to skate which would be pretty nice too with how smooth it is once you get past the connecter from the parking area.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
We groomed again this afternoon to get ready for the next snow fall. We are normally a classic only trail but are still waiting for enough snow to set a track. Rock skis suggested for now.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic Secondhand
[ Good skis ]
We were pleasantly surprised at how nice skiing was despite not having groomed tracks. The surface is very even, there is no debris, the ground is completely covered. This is a classic only area, however, you can skate it until there is enough snow to set tracks.... we ran into the talented groomer who was out skating the trail today.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
We groomed the orange and pink loops but are still waiting for more snow depth to set a track. Some skiers are skating or double polling with old skate skis and some are kicking around on classics. Conditions are not good and you will scratch your skis. Also there is still some truck traffic on the trails from the wildlife research people as CFC is primarily a research forest first and recreation as a side benefit.
