Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I classic skied with my new skin skis today. I wanted to see how they would do in icy conditions as I've never skied skins before in these conditions. It was actually great. The green and red trails were surprisingly in good condition and not very icy. Green was a bit better than red, however. I skied the inner purple trail and it was very poor, because it's mostly in the open. The sun and rain raised havoc with that trail. The tracks were mostly washed out and very icy. I avoided all the hills today, except two smaller ones on green, as a precaution, and kept to the flats and small rollers and didn't have any issues. The skate deck and tracks are very firm and you won't cause any trail damage skiing on them. There are no soft spots. Superior got zero snow and we had rain all day yesterday! The worst part are the parking lots! They are extremely icy and dangerous and you need to tip toe across them. Good news: The city crew installed a new solar light at the 42nd St. parking lot today. That will be a welcome addition to the skiing experience.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All trails are open but in poor condition. Due to the rain and warm temperatures, grooming will be halted until it freezes up enough to get the grooming equipment back on the trails.

I skied red, blue, and green at 7 AM. The skate deck was hard and crunchy, of course. I still used my skate skis so I could get some reps before Book Across the Bay. The front half of the red loop was hard and crunchy, then the blue loop started out really icy. The green loop was the best conditions with some soft snow, but there was still icy parts, mostly under the pines. I'm sure everything will soften up, but I'm worried that bare spots will start appearing if it rains.

Absolutely wonderful conditions today. The skate deck was fast and firm and the classic tracks were freshly groomed. The conditions were as good as I've ever seen it. You need to ski in the afternoon or evening so you can let the groomers groom and track in the morning. I skied, purple, yellow, and a portion of the green trails. I classic skied the red and green trails last night, and the conditions were perfect. New tracks, and were very smooth and fast.

Classic skied purple and yellow. No fresh grooming. Icy and washed out tracks in spots, in need of fresh tracks.

Very hard snow at 6:30 AM. Skate deck was rock solid all over the red and blue trails. My friend did classical and reported varying conditions in the track...from icy and fast to random sticky spots. It was still a fun ski with no one around. The sun came up fast and should soften things up for a great day of skiing.

We skied the multiuse blue at the Superior Municipal Forest today. It appeared to have been freshly groomed then well walked on. The tracks were ice, slow from being warm and "normal". The skate deck, aside from footprints, was good except the biggest hills were icy.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
There were absolutely beautiful conditions tonight at the Superior Municipal Forest cross country trails! The skate deck firmed up from this afternoon and was super fast and the solar lights were at full power. The lights turned on at 5:45 PM and were still going strong after two hours and fifteen minutes. They are supposed to stay on for three hours once they turn on. It was a beautiful night with no wind, 28° temperature and perfect snow conditions. I was cruising along from 7 to 10 mph. The shame was that I was the only skier out there enjoying the trails tonight. The groomers groomed and tracked the entire system today. They did a wonderful job, as usual.

We skied the hilly purple in Superior today and it looked pretty freshly groomed. The skate deck was in great shape, the classic tracks firm and still 99% intact. There was debris once we got further into the woods but not a ton. Some deer also enjoyed a section of the grooming. Thank you groomers!
