Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As of today all of the trails have been groomed and have track set. The groomers are reporting overall good trail conditions on everything except the yellow trail which would be ranked fair due to the hill bypass trails still needing grooming work. Throughout the entire system there is light tree litter due to the winds this last weekend but they have cleaned up nicely and are getting a lot of use. Warm temps may soften them up some or ice up the tracks but we plan to still actively groom this week. Lights are still off however, we anticipate them being turned on soon. They will come on at sunset and run for 3 hours. Please note, on days that are super cold, really cloudy or snowy they will struggle or not function those nights. Just the limits of modern solar and battery technology.

Skied the red and blue trails. Trails are in great shape. There is some debris on the trails, but it's all moved around now it doesn't seem to be a problem to me. Snow is soft and fast. Excellent conditions right now for skiing.

We skated and classic skied the blue multiuse trail at the Superior Municipal Forest today. The grooming was fresh and there was quite a bit of pine tree debris throughout. If you plan to classic, I would use wax less...or skins you don't mind wearing down a bit. If you wax, you may end up with pine needles tagging along.

Got to the Souptown Muni trails at the crack of dawn today. It was awesome! They have done a great job clearing and grooming. Nice deep, firm track and a fresh skate deck. No tracks on the purple, so likely not on gold either. Excited to see the new lights in action soon!

Once again, the dedicated trail crew at SMF does not disappoint. Fresh grooming of the skate deck on everything but the Purple connector and Yellow (did not venture on it). The connector was narrowly groomed and should be good once it is touched up. Scattered pine/tree detritus on parts of the trail but nothing really ski damaging but I would play it safe and use your B skis for now. I have skied this trail for many years and this is some of the best December conditions I can remember. Very nice touch with the new lights too on the inner loops. Please get out there and support this truly excellent trail system. Thank you SMF groomers.

Variable conditions, nice overall. Green trails generally excellent, groomed with multiple skate lane passes yesterday and a classic track. Mostly clean. Red trail also groomed yesterday in a similar fashion, but lots of white pine debris in the usual areas. Blue trail got one pass yesterday and one the day before. No classic track and a fair amount of pine twigs and needles. Inner purple also nicely groomed and tracked yesterday with some drifting in the open areas and debris in the pines. Outer purple got one skate deck pass yesterday and has a skied-in track. Significant small debris under the white pines. Yellow hasn't been groomed since receiving 2 or 3 inches of snow, so not suitable for skating. Classic track also buried. We pulled the big debris off the trails today, but would have needed a rake to make a noticeable impact on the smaller stuff. Thanks to the City of Superior and grooming crew.

I classic skied Superior Municipal Forest this afternoon. I skied the red and green trails. There was excellent snow conditions considering the extreme cold. The tracks were surprisingly fast and firm. The groomer was out during my ski and touched up the skate deck and classic tracks. There was some very minor drifting in open areas, but it wasn't really an issue. I bundled up in several layers and never got cold. A group of skate skiers came by and didn't seem to have any issues with the snow, either. The trails were in top shape overall. Bundle up and enjoy the skiing.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The trails are shaping up nicely! The groomer was able to touch up skate deck and reset track on all of the Red and Green trails as well as the Inner Purple. They also were able to groom the Blue trail loop today. We will continue to improve the remainder of the trails as quick as the groomers can get to it. Grooming plans: Groomers will be out working on the trails Friday and Monday after the holiday weekend. Trail lights will be off for now but we plan to have them fine-tuned and on as soon as we get the trails in top shape!

All the main trails in Superior have now been groomed for skate and classic. Yellow was groomed and tracked yesterday and was a bit soft last evening, but it had firmed up nicely by this afternoon. The purple trail through the woods was groomed and tracked today and is a little soft, but like the yellow will likely be firm tomorrow. The purple does, however, have quite a bit of white pine debris here and there, some of which was stuck fast into the base and couldn't be removed by our scratching and pulling (thus the "B" ski rating). Red and green trails are smooth and firm after several days of grooming. Not exactly fast conditions at -7 and snowing, but enjoyable nonetheless.
