[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Had a fantastic time with all of the different ecologies to ski through. Temperature hit 45° so even my waxless skis started to stick to spots in the sun. Luckily it had just been freshly tracked so wasn't as bad as it could have been. I ended up putting liquid glide wax on my kick area which solved the problem. On the plus side, it meant I could basically walk up the hills. Tossed about 20 sticks and branches off trails 1 through 8 but all the other trails were fine.

We skied the west side of the trails and found the trails in good condition. The track had just been set and was soft since the weather has warmed up. Now we need some cold nights to firm up the trails and they would be even better. However, we had a beautiful blue sky, freshly laid tracks and balmy air that made for a wonderful ski.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Big Aspen? Having grown up just down the road, I learned to ski here and at Lookout Mountain (moment of silence). So, yes, I'm sentimental about it. But these trails really are fantastic! Rolling terrain with just enough pucker producing descents. Diverse forests, ridges and lowlands. And really great grooming! I would consider it a destination ski whether or not I grew up here. Make the drive. Ski these trails. You'll love it!

Our Forest Service team was able to set a fresh track on all segments of the Big Aspen trail system today. Trails are in great shape for the weekend. Get out and enjoy them. And a BIG THANK YOU to retired FS employee and dedicated volunteer Mark Toot! See you out there!

All segments are in excellent condition. A bit of fresh snow covered up any tree debris, tracks were well set. Spent nearly 4 hours skiing, temperature was in the teens, couldn't ask for anything better. Lots of snow art, deer and pileated woodpeckers.

Fantastic trails here, freshly groomed and tracked. Heavy pine debris at times. Skied several sections, beautiful scenery, plenty of hills.
