Have I ever mentioned how much I love Big Aspen? Having grown up just down the road, I learned to ski here and at Lookout Mountain (moment of silence). So, yes, I'm sentimental about it. But these trails really are fantastic! Rolling terrain with just enough pucker producing descents. Diverse forests, ridges and lowlands. And really great grooming! I would consider it a destination ski whether or not I grew up here. Make the drive. Ski these trails. You'll love it!

Our Forest Service team was able to set a fresh track on all segments of the Big Aspen trail system today. Trails are in great shape for the weekend. Get out and enjoy them. And a BIG THANK YOU to retired FS employee and dedicated volunteer Mark Toot! See you out there!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All segments are in excellent condition. A bit of fresh snow covered up any tree debris, tracks were well set. Spent nearly 4 hours skiing, temperature was in the teens, couldn't ask for anything better. Lots of snow art, deer and pileated woodpeckers.

Heard from a friendly skier that the grooming crew worked many hours to clear downed trees and from the 20+ inches of snow on the southern loops. Over 7.25km open and it's absolutely beautiful. Soft and lightly used tracks - my kick wax was a bit warm and dragged a lot of snow, so err on the cold side. Pole plants had to be very light or they punched way deep. I was able to move one tree blocking the trail, but the only other one needed a saw. Can't wait to get back to this gem. Thank you grooming crew!
