Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Skate skied early this morning from old 32 to the golf course and back to the first road crossing past old 32 and back. Didn't ski the big hills by the golf course. Was pleasantly surprised by the conditions. I wasn't sure the drive up from appleton would be worth it. Snow cover was good as was grooming. They were out grooming while I was there. The course is groomed until Sullivan Springs Rd and rolled past that. There were a few sticks here and there, but it wasn't a problem. I would rate the skating as good to very good. Thanks to the groomers and everyone for putting in all your hard work.

Skating technique used between golf course and 11 K marker. Did not do large hills at 2.5-4 k markers. Fresh grooming on the skate deck until 11 K marker and then rolled thereafter. Grooming was in progress at 11 AM today. The coverage is almost 100%. The skate deck is thin but generally level and very well compacted. There was a small amount of wind blown debris but easily avoidable. Classic tracks were being set on these segments. Conditions were better than expected. The trail tolerated the recent warm weather.

Lakewood received about 1.5" new snow. A few grassy spots on golf course but not bad. Surprisingly good in woods for first 8k. Beyond old 32 had more debris and had few skiers by mid day. Overall 8k+ of very skiable trail for freestyle, not classical.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We tried to groom from golf course parking lot to the start of the Green. It’s groomed, but not very good and no track set in that section. Groomed Blue and Green from the golf course and a section between them to old 32 parking lot. Single track was set. There was lots of debris on the trail. Thanks to Jim for removing much of it yesterday. One of the pictures has a map of what was groomed. Several skiers were out and liked the condition of the trail. Tomorrow, we plan on clearing trail to the north. Any help would be appreciated. Just pick a section of the trail and walk or ski in. Rock skis would be suggested. Watch for updates.

Skied from the golf course out to the 8K mark. Freshly groomed transformed snow made for very nice skate skiing. The grooming smoothed out the skate deck and tracks had been set (not full depth). Still a lot of debris on the trail, we flicked a lot of sticks.

Skied from the golf course parking lot to the Old 32 lot starting at 10 AM. The trail was freshly groomed and in midseason condition! The golf course loop and the hilly blue trail off of it were groomed. The classic track looked great and the skate deck was surprisingly firm! There was no grooming beyond the turnoff to the Old 32 parking lot. Great day on the trail! Can’t say enough about the grooming crew who made it possible! Thanks!

Lakewoods is in fabulous conditions for both skate and classic! Thank you goes out to Mother Nature and the ace grooming team! Strided from the golf course to the loop north of the Old 32 parking lot in 3/4 depth tracks while a steady, moderately heavy snow was falling. Simply gorgeous! Tracks are cut to the 16K mark, skaters can enjoy the entire facility. Carpe Skiem!

Early season conditions. Golf course to Smyth Road double pass with Yellowstone and single tracked. Exception, golf course hills not groomed but, were combed yesterday. Smyth Road north single pass of the Yellowstone, no track set. Conditions good to very good for skating. From the woods at the golf course to Smyth Road in fair to good condition. Golf course groomed and tracked in very good condition. Pictures from north of Smyth Road and golf course. At this time there are no plans to groom tomorrow or Friday. Hopefully the Piston Bully will return before the weekend and we will groom Saturday with it. Watch for updates.

Skied 7 miles out and and 7 back from the golf course. They’ve been rolling it steady since this past weekends snow. Fantastic conditions for December 8. A few soft spots here and there but it’s firming up. I didn’t see any bare ground. Just a few twigs poking up. I used B skis but wouldn’t hesitate to use my good skis.
