Went twice around most trails with the Tidd. Some open spots and debris. Not bad if you have to ski.

After the rain earlier this week and the following cold there is an ice road through most of the trail system. Fortunately we received about four inches of snow Thursday, which the groomer expertly covered the trail with. I skied the green, red, and purple trails. A few spots had ice or dirt showing. The downhill, as you head toward the marsh had a little grass showing in the middle of the trail. A pretty day to be out.

The skate deck was fast smooth and silent this afternoon. I should say silent save for the sound on metal pole tips striking the solid ice beneath the deceptively thin corduroy surface. Actually could have used roller ski poles today. All the same it was wonderful skiing all of the skate loops in the sunshine. These conditions unfortunately will not last long given the forecast. Hats off to head groomer Jeff who artfully fused the fluffy new snow to the glare ice beneath. Ski it while it's there!

Greenbush receive 3 to 4 inches of powdery snow yesterday. Jeff rolled the entire system and the snow adhered very well. It was an ice-skating rink beforehand. Couldn't set any track, but my classic skiing with Clark was rather nice. Grooming plans: Someone will likely groom Saturday night or Sunday morning. Pictures show rolled areas and the amazing Greenbush snow pimples.

Observation
Checked trails to see if the youth team could practice tonight. There is 1-2" of solid ice surrounding the Greenbush Shelter and leading out on the trails from the shelter. Light snow was falling at 12:30 PM making this ice very hazardous to be on (extremely slippery). The snow that was falling was fine and light and blowing around. If measurable snow falls later today, it will need time to set up before attempting to ski on it. Currently not safe.

Nordic Heaven always surprises. I came with the idea to hit the sweet spot between freezing and thawing. It was below freezing and crusty or icy in most spots when I started. Some shaded areas had great snow. I sidestepped all long curvy downhills. The north section of trails is pretty well covered. By the time I got to the south areas they started softening up a bit. The long downhill on the green trail was screaming. That is a spring run I always enjoy.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Did 1 to 2 passes on most of the system. It's not too bad, lots of debris. We are starting to see a couple areas of gray ice.

Parking lot was as busy as I have seen it this year. Trail conditions were pretty good albeit slow. The groomers have done great work with the very wet snow from Thursday. There is a solid base in most places with the sun affected areas starting to get thin. Things really started getting really sticky towards the noon hour. I would not recommend race skis as there is still some debris here and there. The skiing should still be pretty good Sunday.

Skied purple and a fun loop. I felt cover was better than expected and I could have gotten away with good skis. The base had been rolled but was not setup as of 10:30 am. I think it will be great early Saturday. The thinnest areas are the southwest part of the segment that gets the westerly wind. It also happened to be the fastest as it was a mix of icy snow. As always, thanks to the fantastic groomers!

Greenbush received three inches of heavy wet snow Thursday. Jeff groomed the whole system and tracked wherever he could. The pines are a little marginal but everything else is good. You can probably use good skis if you're careful.
