Trail Detail
Notes
Located 18 miles north of Duluth, the groomed trails are in nice primitive outdoor setting. The trails feature the "Wolfski's Ski Den" warming shack, open daily sunrise to sunset. In addition to the 21 kilometers of classical skiing, there will also be 11 kilometers groomed for skate-skiing. Trails are groomed Fridays and Mondays, and/or as needed. No fee or Minnesota State Ski Pass is required.Trail Reports

There is still snow at Boulder, at least the parts I skied this afternoon. I skated a little bit of Blue Ox but eventually turned around because of the hard, deep ruts. There was a bit of ground and one sizable rock showing on the section I skated. Bear Paw was not as rutted and had good coverage so I did a couple of loops there. The track is still mostly there, but a little shallow and a little icy. I skied out onto the lake to see if it was possible to do some crust skiing, and it was. There are a lot of large frozen puddles on the lake and the snow is lumpy, but it was still fun. Overall, way better than not skiing.

Freshly groomed today. Solid skate deck and classic track. I skied Lonesome grouse and nine pine, just a few cars in the upper parking lot.

Beautiful warm 22 degrees under deep blue sky. Skied Lonesome Grouse and Nine Pine from East parking lot. About an inch or more of new snow not groomed yet, but very nice skied in tracks on both loops. A skate skier told me that Nine Pine skating lane was pretty slow as you could tell from my picture. Beautiful afternoon!

Skied Bear Paw and across the lake. Absolutely perfect tracks and the skate deck looked pristine and barely used when we were there in the later part of the afternoon. Tracks were firm and somewhat fast. Boulder lake had some snow that had blown into some of the tracks, but it was still manageable and a wonderful ski!

Classic skied Lonesome Grouse and Nine Pine Trails at 4PM at 5 degrees. Absolutely beautiful conditions. The tracks were wedding cake smooth. I hadn't been on Lonesome for two years. Thank goodness the county was able to manage the spruce budworm damaged balsam trees. And now the new growth is coming back! So good to see.

We skated all the skating trails Saturday evening. Three inches of snow had fallen on the woods from grandma's feather bed, which finally covered the sandpaper snow of this past week, and allowed for the skate skis to glide perfectly. Tracks were deep and had good glide too, but not as good as the skate lanes.
