Yowser... that snow was pretty darn soft in lots of places. Felt like "real" snow. Great job making snow and grooming it in. Go get it!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Very good conditions for skating from the amazing effort made yesterday by the snowmaking and grooming crews. The man-made section for skating and tracks for striders included the lower loop and a section up and back at summer stage hill. It was very enjoyable and should also be good tomorrow.

Very good conditions for skate and stride. New manmade snow, freshly spread and groomed. Generally an excellent skate deck, with some areas of corn snow. Great for easy cruising. Solid, fast tracks. Big Thank You to our volunteer snowmakers and groomers for taking advantage of the few cold nights we have had to make snow, and then getting it ready for skiing. Get out here and enjoy it.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
I had the Pisten Bully out last night and into this morning leveling the new snow whales. Our man-made trails are back skiable. The Snow Makers had about a 12 hour time frame to remake snow on the thin areas. We have skiing here but unfortunately Mother Nature isn't being very kind to us. Happy skiing!

Rare occurence tonight. Showed up from the Madison area to get a ski on. I was rewarded for my efforts by getting to ski along with the whales. Dozens of the fish (mammals). So wonderful. Joy Joy. Be good, real good!

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Trails thinning with several dirt patches. Grooming plans: The Snow Makers plan to make snow this evening and all morning as weather permits. The snow guns will be all over the trails and the plan is to make snow on all of the thinning areas. Please respect the Snow Makers and give them room to hopefully get our trails back in much better skiable condition. Unfortunately we will not make snow into the woods as we have to remake snow on the original trails that have been open. Mark and I hope to groom the trails Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning and have them open by Wednesday morning but watch for an updated grooming report.

Fair conditions for skate and stride. Crushed ice on a dense ice base. A few trouble spots that are easily avoidable. A bit chunky in the areas with relatively new manmade snow. Some windblown debris. Tracks are icy and chunky.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
I had the Pisten Bully out early this morning and reset tracks where I could. I also groomed the skate deck where there was adequate snow. Mother nature was not kind to us and we have many thin areas. Grooming plans: The Snow Makers are going to try and make snow on some of the thin areas in the next day or so. Unfortunately we won't be making snow into the woods anytime soon due to the weather forecast. The DNR, Mark, and I will continue to groom the best we can going forward. Happy skiing!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Did a few loops between 3:00-4:30 pm this afternoon. It's quite icy at this point but just a very few bad spots for dirt/rocks; not quite B skis territory. Hoping some colder days and grooming this week can get it into better shape with less ice.

The snow is holding up well. Warm temps overnight didn't allow for grooming. Before sunrise the snow was hard packed and difficult but as it warmed the trail turned fantastic. No rocks, still very little debris. Afternoon skiers can expect slower conditions as it turns soft. Classic skins were pretty wet.
