Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
I got done around 9:30 PM, skiing the small loop that the snowmaking volunteers setup. I skied just over 5 miles. The trail is starting to get soft in some areas. No bare spots because of the good base.

Pretty nice spring type skiing today on the well groomed and man made snow. Man ... climate change sucks.

Best 50 degree skiing conditions ever. Solid, clean base with areas of loose and compacted snow on top. Sometimes sticky, sometimes slick. Tracks are well formed, but not real firm. A good workout.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
I was out early this morning leveling some of the snow whales that were made Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Normally when we make snow it is best to leave the whales sit for a few days and dry out. But due to the warm weather we are having and the warm weather that is predicted through the weekend we decided to groom right away and continue to ski. We are doing our best to try and make the trails skiable. I am not sure what to expect for skiing conditions as it was a low of 36° this morning while I was grooming. Please don't expect world class skiing, instead just come out here and have a nice time and enjoy the great outdoors while skiing. Know that collectively the Snowmakers, the DNR, and us groomers are doing the best we can. We are not sure the grooming plans for the weekend as warm weather and rain are predicted. Happy skiing!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We have a loop! The snowmaking crew worked hard to make enough snow to open the field loop. It is full width with two tracks on the outside and one track on the inside. Skate deck down the middle. That's the good news. The bad news is it is chunky, not big chunks but chunky nonetheless. It should improve with skier traffic and further grooming. The rest of the T trail was groomed. The skate deck was touched up and the classic track was left as is.

Good conditions for state in the Man-made snow trail 0.5 mile out and back. They are spreading the snow to complete the man-made loop.

Well that may have been some of the nicest snow I have skied this year. I think it was groomed this morning. That said ... all the snow is man made and the loop is one of the very smallest I have ever skied on besides ones I made myself whilst I tried to find places to ski. Trail was being worked on via Piston Bully for a full loop via snow piles made last night. Might be a full loop soon on flat land at bottom. First time I skied here. Usually I am around Dane County. I will be back.

Excellent conditions for skate this afternoon. A perfect combination of a loose powdery layer on a firm, flat base. Tracks are solid and fast. Snowmaking last night was a success, and Mark is out on the Pisten Bully finishing up the spreading of the new snow around the Field Loop.

Excellent for striding today. Tracks were perfect. There were equal numbers of striders and skaters when I skied. Skate lane looked also good: firm with the right amount of loose snow for control. A lot less corn snow than previous days. Groomer was spreading the snow made last night around the Field Loop which may open soon.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The Piston Bully was out grooming the man made trail at night. The skate deck was tilled and a new classic track was set. Conditions should be good. The snow makers were busy making more snow. If all goes well we might just have loop soon.
