Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 21 to 30 of 169    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Saturday, March 11, 2023
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Fair conditions for skate and stride on the manmade snow loops. The very wet new snow from Friday night has sort of frozen, leading to an irregular surface with some ruts and icy spots. Plenty of skiers, some of who liked it and some who did not. Classic tracks are shallow, with an icy base. Best section is the Green Cutoff, in the woods, but Magic Carpet is a bit of a challenge for the novice skier. Expect conditions to improve with additional grooming and hopefully more new snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The man-made loop was groomed with the ginzu this morning. Conditions look pretty good, but there are still a few spots that looked a little icy. Tracks were set yesterday afternoon and looked to still be in pretty good shape this morning. The rest of the lighted loop (South Field, Two-Tier, and Hoot Owl) was rolled yesterday but it compacted too much to do any additional grooming, it is skiable though. We are allowing hiking on the upper trails (Blue/Black, and Purple). The mountain bike/ horse trails remain closed.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We got some wet heavy snow overnight. We are rolling the entire lighted loop this morning and plan to groom that with the ginzu tonight. Conditions today should be decent but a little slushy. We will still be allowing hikers off of the lighted loop.

Firm and fast initially, but getting slow and slushy in the sunny areas as the day progressed. Full snow coverage on the manmade snow loops, with new tracks throughout. Spring skiing at its finest for southeast Wisconsin.

Took a drive early morning to Lapham peak. Arrived to a perfectly groomed manmade snow loop. Skiing was awesome, the best I've skied on there this year! They do a remarkable job of grooming to perfection despite all the free thaw cycles we have gone thru! Well worth the drive!

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The Piston Bully was out at night grooming the man made snow loop. All bare spots were covered and leveled. The skate deck was tilled and is in great condition. The classic tracks were reset and are in good condition as well. There are some thin and icy patches put we still have full coverage.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The Piston Bully was out again at night grooming and fixing the man made loops. If the hikers only knew the damage they could do. The skate deck was tilled and is in great condition. The classic tracks were reset and are in mostly great condition. They are down to bare ground in a couple of spots and ice in others but nothing to stop you from enjoying your ski. Get out and enjoy the days are numbered.

The manmade snow was fantastic today. Not only was there gorgeous, hard corduroy with enough powder to be totally in control, but either by shoveling snow on brown spots or churning up good snow from the pack, all the dirty spots on the trail from the past two days were gone, and the snow looked pristine. Classic tracks everywhere and solid.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Another day of great Spring skiing thanks to Pisten Bully grooming last night. The warm temperatures and sunshine break down the loops to slush by afternoon but the overnight grooming has been able to restore conditions the last three days. There are some avoidable dirty or thin or wet sections of trail. This report is for the snowmaking loops, all other loops remain closed.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The Piston Bully was out at night grooming the man made loops. Some snow was moved around to fill in a few low spots. All the bare spots were covered as well. The skate deck is in great condition. The classic tracks were reset and are in great condition. Please note that Beattle's loop and Mark's park were not groomed and likely won't be groomed anymore this season.
