Piedmont was freshly groomed and beautiful around lunchtime today! But it was also very soft. We tried to ski lightly to avoid sinking with each kick and to avoid punching too deep with poles, but the foot+ of fluffy new snow made that a challenge. The classic track around the skate loop was a bit firmer.

Very well groomed with a clean and firm track which has become glazed since the last grooming (Tuesday?). My first time skiing here: it's a short (about 5k) well laid-out trail system with nice ups and downs and a good view at one point looking down over West Duluth. Tree cover is almost exclusively young popple, so debris was nearly non-existent but exposure to the brisk east wind off the Big Lake detracted from the overall experience. Started with special red kick wax covered by special violet, then added more special red on-site. Red extra or no-wax skis would have been a better choice. Mid-morning timing today was at least two hours too early for sweet-spot skiing.

Not groomed since the last snowfall. Tracks were deep and dependable, but wide from use. Skins worked well in the mid 30s temperatures. May need some cooler weather for the city to groom.

Piedmont was groomed yesterday with the Pisten Bully groomer with nice conditions today. I started off with blue Power Grip and had excellent grip and glide. I did a few laps with my skin skis which worked well also. The PistenBully did a good job breaking through the ice and rejuvenating both the classic track and skate deck.

PIedmont was groomed by the big groomer yesterday. There is evidence of lots of use. The parts in between the tracks where they end and start again are concrete with little to no edge. The parts between the tracks are cord, but more like icy cord... if you are a good skier you will be fine... if timid be careful... it will hurt a lot if you fall as it's solid. The tracks are the deepest and most solid I've seen this year. They are 99% debris free and 100% intact. There are a couple spots where they zig a bit, but not on any steep parts. The tracks were very fast too... not ice, but fast. I had my skins and Rode blue liquid and put in very little effort to move forward or up hills today. Someone did take a dog for a walk all along the trail and sometimes stepped on the tracks but they are still ok.

There was about a half inch of new snow in tracks that were firm and in decent shape. Day before it was mostly icy. Did come across three downed trees across the trail which I had to crawl over.

I read on the Duluth Parks website that Piedmont was groomed Friday afternoon. I didn't get out there until noon today, but the tracks were in great shape. Ended up skiing longer than I'd planned to because it was so nice. Used fishscales, other folks I chatted with were also on no-wax skis of some sort.

The Duluth Parks and Recreation website stated that the Piedmont trails were groomed Wednesday and was in good condition. So, I went there today in the late morning and Classic skied almost all of the trails multiple times (I did not ski the Black, Most Difficult loop). The tracks were very solid, but not rock hard. The track was fast and glazed and tending towards icy as the afternoon went on. But the skiing was a lot of fun. I had pretty good grip with high performance patterned, waxless skis. And the glide was fast.
