Trail Detail
Notes
The trail system runs through three contiguous city parks: Jaycee Park, Evergreen Park and Maywood Environmental Park. The main trail follows the Pigeon River and is fairly flat, rising a few times into the bluffs above the river. Roughly 3K lit trail in Evergreen Park.Trail Reports

Observation [ Trails Open: All, ]

I looked at the trails this morning and they generally are snow covered. The snow is soft and mushy. If we used our type of equipment to groom it likely would result in rutted trails and frustrated groomers We will hold off for now and see if we can groom with some cooler temperatures. Trail 9 saw a lot of foot traffic on it last night for a full moon hike. I saw a few classic skiers on the ungroomed trails today. They looked like they were having fun.

First time skiing Maywood this season. Very nice, especially Trail 9 west of the driveway. Classic track is presently soft for poling through the deep snow. Jim V deserves a lot of credit for his volunteer grooming. Thank you!

Firsthand: Freestyle Grooming [ Trails Open: All, ]

I groomed the skate deck on all trails and then skied them. The grooming helped smooth it out. The classic track was left as is. There are a few dirt spots in the classic track. We will see what type of precipitation we get tomorrow morning to determine if we will regroom tomorrow.

The trails are holding up well. A little snow blown on a small section of the skate deck in the prairie. A few hikers footprints close to the parking lot but not really that much. The biggest obstruction was the eviscerated remains of a rabbit on the trail. A good lesson on not traveling too slow on the trails. Grooming plans: I hope to clean up the trail tomorrow morning.

Grooming [ Trails Open: Partial, ]

I packed the deck on Trail 9 and the Prairie Loop this morning. The classic track was reset in the prairie as there was a fair amount of drifted snow in the track. I had a bit of equipment malfunction which created some problems in a couple of spots on the trail. Thanks to skier Paul P. for helping me out. The trails may also be used by walkers and snowshoers. We will try to get there regularly to undo their damage. A good amount of happy skiers out while I was grooming. If you are coming to ski the groomed trails you should park at Maywood Park. All trails can be skied but not all will be groomed.

A nice ski on Trail 9 and through the Prairie Loop. Trail 9 is in excellent shape. The Prairie Loop has drifted over in spots. The track along the eastern side of the prairie is also thin in some areas. I hope to regroom the prairie on Thursday. Trails mostly groomed for classic, hope to expand some for skate.

Stopped on the way to Door County looking to ski this area for a first time. Parking lot areas closed and no grooming appears to have taken place.

We are now grooming the Prairie Loop with a classic track. It was completed this afternoon and has full coverage. Trail 9 has been packed and a single classic track laid down. We no longer groom the other trails in the Evergreen/Maywood system. There is too much foot, bike, and snowshoe traffic on these trails to maintain them properly. In addition, our warming winters also play havoc with the trails. You are more than welcome to ski on the ungroomed trails.
