I skied the trails that I had groomed on Monday night for Tuesday's high school races. The trail conditions were great for classic skiing with double tracks over our 5K course! The tracks should last for a while but may get blown in with the new snow and wind. Plans are to let them be for now and to groom early in the week. Cold temperature favors classic skiing over skate skiing, so enjoy the classic skiing.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
The MINSA Jr Ski Club was out mid-morning. Classic tracks were set on many trails last night with a new 1/2" of fluffy snow. We mostly skied the Up Top trails but the skiing everywhere was super fun. A magical day. Nice to be on blue hardwax for a change. An amazing amount of snow. Thanks groomers for all the hours so we can ski.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Packed and tracked most of upper Grant in Aid trails after the big storm dropped 18 inches of heavy wet snow. Bittersweet, Mag View, Black Widow, Main Street and Exit Ramp done in addition to lower biathlon trails now tracked. Overhanging small trees and branches to be removed by hand saw or nippers. Skate deck should firm up with colder temps. Grooming plans: Final sections to be packed Saturday night.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Big storm dropped over 18 inches of heavy wet snow. Lots of overhanging branches and trees that need to be relieved of snow weight. Stadium and all lower biathlon loops have been flat packed with Pisten Bulley and up Service Road. Grant in Aid trails are not yet done. Granby/The Wall is not done.
Good skiing but deck likely to be soft. No tracks set yet. Grooming plans: More grooming to be done Friday evening.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
15" new snow. I'm sure everyone is anxious to ski in this wonderful new snow! With this much snow at once, it will take a day or two (or three) to get things groomed up and in good shape for everyone, so please be patient with the grooming. If you feel like it, go ahead and ski your own tracks in. We'll try to start on packing tonight.

Trails were in better shape than I expected. Biathlon trails have 1.6 km machine-made snow and are Pistenbully-groomed with a track set. The rest of the 8 km trails were rolled/packed with about a 3" base and no track. Skated okay. Not much in the way of stuff to avoid, but I would not use my best skis on that. If you stay on machine-made snow, you can use your best skis.
