Skied all the natural snow north of Glenwood Ave and it was pretty good for skating. The base is very firm and slow due to the cold snow, but still fun to get out under the sun on the natural snow. Wirth Lake had a really cool smooth looking ice skating loop exposed - bring your ice skates while you are at it!

Pretty hard to beat skiing in the Bog and Eloise Butler Garden on a bluebird Sunday! I earned a bunch of new dings (and extra deep new tracking groove on one ski) but had a blast doing it on my "forest skis." The Bog trail and 394 trail is in a bit better shape than Eloise Butler, and fun to do a bunch of loops over there to minimize the road crossings. The yellow curb at the bottom of the downhill at Eloise Butler is easy to safely "launch" over with enough speed. One manhole cover to watch out for in the Bog and a handful of frozen branches and rock faces, most of which are visible. Downhills are all in pretty good condition - skiing to the left or right of the trail is usually the best snow coverage. The best part about these trails is you are not exposed to any wind so it's nice and warm, compared to the open trails like Wirth Lake, which was quite windy. Bonus is the easy parking at the Wirth Beach House parking lot.

The entire trail system has been rolled. Snow has been shoveled under the highway 55 bridge and the brownie lake tunnel, and the 394 overpass is also skiable with clean snow. I would call this B ski conditions. I hit some sticks but no rocks in 20km of skiing. The new snow is soft and fast.

100% of the natural snow trails have been groomed! Super Fun skating from the Trailhead to Lake of the Isles and back (30k total). Great to be back on Wirth Lake, Jar Hill, Eloise Butler, and the Bog. Plenty of snow under the 55 bridge and on the 394 bridge and down to Brownie. Rock skis are recommended due to a handful of rocks, forest debris, and a bit of asphalt if you have a strong push off here and there. But way better than I expected. Thanks groomers!

Perfect conditions for classic skiing - great grooming, not many skiers on the classic trails. Many skiers on the skate deck but still in great shape. Get out and enjoy!

Wirth's full natural snow trail system has been groomed (no classic tracks), from Judy Loop down to Brownie Lake. Conditions are thin, sometimes bumpy, and sometimes with some debris poking through, but the packed layer from last snow fall should help keep skis from contacting the ground too frequently. We also filled in under the highway 55 bridge, so skis can be left on there.

Great day to go out with your rock skis at Theo South. I started at the Chalet lot, skied up La Squandra and then made my way around to the bridge that gets one onto the golf course. From there I skied all the way one and around Cedar Lake and back, catching a few side trails as I went. All in all, it's less snow than we had in December, but it still benefits from that tiny bit that was on the ground just a few days ago. Poles always hit pavement, but a careful skate never hit the bike path. Rocks were a different matter. If they are there you will know, and I certainly got my fair share. It's totally worth it however if you just want to be out on the natural snow trails and don't mind your skis taking one for a good cause. Technically all trails might be open but I marked it as most.
