Trail Reports

2022-2023 season

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Very good conditions. The groomers have rolled, groomed, and tracked all trails. Tracks are firm and clean. Skate lane is a bit soft with a ridge in the middle in places. The wind from today has caused some drifting to occur in open areas. These trails seem to be getting groomed daily this winter, so conditions should improve quickly. It's nice to be back in winter conditions.

Went north to the snow belt and Miners Park for the first ski of the season. First time at Miners Park and I enjoyed the fairly easy trail system with some small inclines. The skate deck was icy to start due to the previous warming and then overnight freezing. Fortunately the groomer came by twice and chopped it up so it was pretty nice conditions for early season. Nice signage about the history of mining in the Ironwood area. Plus the cost was only a donation!

The groomer went by as we put on our skis. The conditions were wonderful, except for Shaft trail. A big surprise considering we were at another area trail the day before that didn't have enough snow. There were nine people walking on the trail.

Miners was in prime form late morning. Rick had just made a run with the groomer and refreshed the deck. Almost wished I had traded out the touring skis for skating, the deck was so perfect. But, the tracks were great too. The only real thing spots were on the G shaft loop. Thanks for the great grooming. Miners survived the warm up in good shape.

I started in classic with temps already above 40F and the tracks were still solid boilerplate. No kick with skins. They did soften up eventually and I saw the groomer out by 1:30 PM at the perfect time. I went for a quick skate lap before finally getting lunch and it was terrific. I think I'll go out before dusk again.

Good snow cover, nicely groomed. Skied both loops, and the G side loop. Lots of snowshoers in the park; fewer skiers.

[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Evening ski on fish-scale touring skis as the lake effect started in earnest. Our tracks were covered by the time we finished ~5km. Trails was firm from grooming and previous traffic, but 6-8" has fallen as of this post (8:30 PM).

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
All trails rolled. Skiing is good. A couple thin areas still, but didn't hit any rocks. Freezing down well at 14F this morning. The hairpin loop is still a bit rough, but quite skiable. Fall trail prep is paying off.

Very good early season skiing, nearly all areas snow covered; rock skis recommended mostly for trail crossings.
