2021-2022 season

Night
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
The snowmaking loop is all in good shape except for a tree down across the west side of the Star loop. They had rerouted UP the far side of the big hill with a hairpin left turn at the bottom of the descent so be careful on the rerouted section. Tracks were decent, set while slushy in sunny locations so probably not great hard wax conditions. Skin skis had very reliable kick but were a touch on the slow side, especially on the straight climb south to the lookout hilltop. ( So my two favorite hills were not so great tonight -second being straight star hill, MIA.) Skating trail was pretty good - not at all icy except for a few snowplowed places, and no ruts anywhere.

Tracks were icy, especially on Willow. They were mostly deep and set, though. Did one loop and called it a day. The deck looked better.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
A portion of the Star loop between Jan's Place and the Visitor Center will be closed for the season. This will allow park staff to remove Ash trees to manage an Emerald Ash Borer infestation. The rest of Star loop is open and will become two-way to allow for access from the Visitor Center to the rest of the 5K manufactured snow trails. Nightly grooming continues on the manufactured snow trails as conditions allow.

Today's ski was fast and fun on the groomed corduroy. Only went out to the cut off for Boulder but the trail was open all the way north. Slight change at the star loop as you now go up the down and then around to the chalet.

The snowmaking loop was in very good condition. A little rutted on the south-facing uphills but otherwise excellent. No deep sugar yet. Made it a lot easier on the Boulder climb. Some snowplow wake on the downhills but nothing you couldn't get through easily. It was 32 degrees. I used FastWax Yellow LF. What a treat to finally have the right wax and great conditions. I skied nonstop from trailhead to just shy of the top of Scenic Foothills. Got up to the step on Boulder pretty easily from there and it was a fairly easy herringbone to the top thereafter. Took it easy (walked) to top of Scenic after skiing to the bottom of Boulder but it was nonstop to the finish after that. Thanks to groomers and Three Rivers for extending the season at such a great skiing venue.

Lake trail has tree pruning operations going on but the manufactured snow was great. Still several feet of base. Rumor has it that the star loop will be pruned soon.

XC Classic skied at 6am Wednesday. Manmade trails were lightning fast, but had not been groomed this morning. Conditions B+. Used Madshus Race Skin 205cm.

The 5K man-made snow loop was in fantastic shape this morning - really nice skate deck, firm and fast. The classic tracks were solid - nice and fast on the downhills. No icy spots, even on the Boulder Ridge descent. Thanks for the great grooming for spring skiing!

All the natural trails were freshly tracked and the snow was fast late morning to early afternoon. Lake Hill combo had best conditions I can remember and I ended up doing 5 laps there. Some debris starting to show at the end on Lake and thin snow over pavement just before last uphill to visitor center.
