Trail Detail
Notes
A couple of good loops, although it seems to get more wind-blown than other metro trails. New in 2013, 5K snowmaking loop.Trail Reports

Skied everything manmade. Basically an ice sheet, nearly unskiable. Also very windy. Not the spot for an after-work ski today.

Skied the Star and Willow loop late this morning. After the temperature dropped, the skate deck is very icy.
Another skier arrived and left the same time as I did and bailed because of the icy conditions.

The snow was good, perfect for training for the 26-mile Svalbard race in April. As a relatively new XC skier, I knew to take the Bypass and avoid Boulder Ridge, which ate me up when I ventured there by accident weeks ago. I was able to do the Bypass loop of 2.6 miles five times with less than ideal skis. That loop goes past Frog Town and into Scenic Foothills. Now I have thinner, faster, and lighter skis, and I'll finally get real instruction. Lots of training still to do!

For those of you hoping to stride on the classic tracks on natural snow trails, bad news. At least around the lake, the tracks are shallow at best. Great snow around the lake for skating. The man made loop was immaculate this morning for classic tracks.
