Skied classic on the Green Meadow Loop, Ridgeline Trail, Stadium and LaSquandra around 6 p.m. With the cold temps, there was a nice firm and deep set track (most of the time two sets) around the entire man-made areas. Skiing was fast. Tracks getting a bit glazed, but TK-1814 over a klister base worked really well. Kudos to the groomers and snow-making staff.

Wirth was solid and fast this morning. I was there last night to teach Trail Kids and it was deep sugar and soft. I'm amazed at how dramatic the improvement was in just 10 hours. The sunrise coming up over downtown was a welcome change too. I'll take cold and sunny over the warm cloudy days!

Classic skied at 8:00 am, and the groomers had a rare poor night of grooming. Granted, they did not have much to work with. The track is shallow in some parts, and in other places washed out completely. The big uphill going into the Twin Lake section had a pile of snow at one point, followed by dirty ice and snow. Not ideal conditions, but let's be honest -- it beats the alternative of not having manmade snow. On the upside: all of the downhills this morning were quite good.

Even with a 6am start, the corduroy was soft. Temps weren't cold enough to firm things up. By 8, there was plenty of sugar and the thick mashed potatoes. Most downhills and corners were soft but not scraped thin, except the hill on the meadow and the turn after leaving the upper stadium. It was much less crowded than yesterday. Overall, still good conditions, but the snow was getting dirty.

All of the made snow trails were open except La Squadra. Started out classic around 6:10. Did a few laps around the catwalk, then switched to skate. The tracks seemed firm enough, but I wasn't sticking on klister as much as I'd hoped. The corduroy was still crusty when we started, but softened up around 7:15, especially once all the high schoolers got out there. The deck was in great shape- firm underneath with a slightly soft top. It didn't set up quite as firmly on top as other times, but was nice and clean. The soft top meant all of the turns were as easy as they have ever been. But by 8, things got a little more sugary and the turn in the meadow got scraped off. The work on Trail 18 was evident, as the hill at the bottom was the least sugary hill on the course. Thanks for the hard work!

Sunrise classic ski, and the tracks were immaculate. The Machinery Hill area has lovely, clean snow, and the rest of the 5K loop was remarkably clean. A night and day difference from Monday's desultory conditions. Props, once again, to the grooming crew.

Thank you to the groomers for working hard to get the trails back in shape. Did a pre-dawn ski this morning. Compared to Monday, much improved. Still some debris, but much reduced since Monday (granted, it was dark). Tracks are firm and good for the most part, but some icy spots make it hard to get a pole plant when double poling. Nice turnaround added in upper stadium while trail 18 is closed. It's a solid 5K open.

Perfect conditions this morning. Tracks firm. Skate deck hard but still edgeable. No ice yet. Great to have the back 40 open!

I skied the snowmaking trails around midday. The snow is groomed but pretty crunchy, it probably didn't totally freeze until after grooming. It was fast, and a few places it was hard to edge due to ice. Lots of twigs and leaves are being blown down in the wooded sections.

We will be closing down Trail 18 (still have 5k of snowmaking open) this afternoon to make more snow on it and clean it up. The recent warm temps and high winds have made quite a mess of debris and poor quality snow so with next few cold days we will get it back into good shape. We will also be making snow on stadium 18 and the north finger.
