No surprise, conditions were poor today. No bare spots, just icy and lots of mashed potato. Only did one lap. But, the base is holding up and as the temps drop should give the groomers something to work.

I was out on Sunday before dawn and it was great (albeit a bit icey). Today at 11:30 it was a very different story. Lots of debris in the tracks, alternating slush and ice, overall pretty sad conditions. The groomers have been doing such a good job that I was a bit taken aback by the big change in 30 hours, but that's the weather we're dealing with. Hopefully it gets below freezing again soon.

The groomers do a great job! I am consistently impressed that though the weather is unpredictable, the trail conditions at Wirth are good.

Starting out classic at 7, but there weren't any tracks set outside of the stadium. The deck was still skiable for classic, and some others continued doing so. They started setting tracks a little later. We switched to skate at 7:30, and it was fantastic. Just enough soft snow on top of the very firm deck to avoid squeaking. It was firm, but not crusty. The hills were all easy to manage, despite feeling fast. Not much evidence of snowplowing. I wish I had the time and energy to ski all day.

Good news is that Twin Love section is open! Thank you groomers! Bad news is no classic tracks set this morning, which meant lots of double polling and some "running" up the hills.

I didn't make it out until 9:45, and the sun was already blazing. But there was a cool wind, which seemed to help keep the snow from getting wet or turning to slush. The track was in surprisingly good shape, especially considering how many people had already been on it before me. It did not fall apart really at all during my ski, and I was out until 12:15 or so. The hills were hardly snowplowed, and the uphills were not sugary. The only slightly loose section was the flat and then uphill at the bottom of Trail 18. Classic skiers were zooming up the hills, so the tracks must have been good too.

Great skiing under the lights. Classic tracks were perfect and as of 9pm I only found one patch of ice on the first uphill by the old lodge. Nice work theo trail crew!

Classic skied at 8:00 am, and trails were immaculate. The snow machines were not running on the Twin Lakes section, but it looks like they are doing the work necessary to open that segment soon. With the warm weather arriving, I am reminded how lucky we are to have places like Theodore Wirth North, the manmade snow, and experienced groomers. Many thanks.

The skating deck at Wirth was great this morning--firm with some squeaky corduroy. Few people at 8am, but by 10am lots of teams working out and people young and old taking lessons.
