Notes

A nice set of trails with rolling hills. The first lighted trail system in the metro, it still attracts a lot of after-work skiers.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied all trails around 10:00 am, beautiful weather and saw nobody there. Trails had been freshly packed, skate deck in good shape, crispy cold snow. No debris, a few waves here and there but all good.

Did an evening skate at French. Excellent skate deck of course. The track appears shallow but not glazed. A few people out. It was not crowded. Some wore headlamps to ski off the lit trails. I found the cloud deck, that plagues us with flat light during the day, benefits us with reflected light at night. The Meadow trail benefited most from the reflected light and easily could be skied with out the use of a headlamp.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Skied most of the trails. It was overall a lovely time. The groomed trails were shallow though and tracks were almost fully smoothed away in parts of the course. I kept having to put my skis back in the tracks when they were groomed again. But it was still lots of fun and the snow conditions were great.

Faster snow compared to yesterday, still very enjoyable. More caution to exercise on the downhills since the soft corduroy is gone in some places hence skis can be less stable. Would be better with the sun but very good conditions overall.

Great conditions this morning at French around 10am. Soft thin corduroy above a hard base, snow getting faster, and almost no icy spots. All trails in great shape.

Out with the groomers this morning - they are working hard! Great coverage throughout French - deck is solid. Top snow post-groom was a bit soft this morning but should set up nicely with cooler temps.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Surprisingly good skiing with only a few icy areas and a few leaves and cones occasionally. Given the recent rain/snow/slush, this is great skiing. Used best skis with no regrets. Great job, groomers! All trails very skiable!

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skated all the loops. Most of the snow was soft and water-saturated but not yet sloppy slushy. There were some packed sections where the snow was just soft. I encountered several spots with bumps in the skate deck. Some tree debris here and there but all easily avoidable. Classic tracks looked in rough shape.

Skate skied at around 3:30 pm. Snow is getting icy and fast, still enjoyable but need a good grooming for better grip in some sections.

Skied freestyle all trails around 11:00 am. Grooming has clearly improved, trails are even, classic trails looked in good shape too. Snow was getting somewhat soft, although faster than yesterday a few icy patches including on the two descents of Skyline trail (some caution to control your skis).
