Ski for Snow this Saturday at Theodore Wirth Park

Hi there! My name is Caleb Hunter, and my fellow Captain Elena Hicks and I are organizing a fundraiser for Protect Our Winters, which is a group based in Boulder, CO that focuses on organizing the outdoor community to band together and make a difference with climate change. If you hadn't noticed it's been a crazy winter, we've had temperature fluctuations of over 30 degrees in under a week and massive snowfalls followed by melts and freezes. While most of the skiing this season has been nice temperature-wise, it does not bode well for the future of the sport we all love.

Our fundraiser is on Saturday, February 11th at Theodore Wirth Park. This is a ski event, and we hope to have people show up and ski, and then come check out the Ski For Snow area on the patio by the trailhead. There will be live music, hot chocolate, and some yard games. If you aren't looking to ski, that's all right too! The tubing hill will be open at Wirth and you can just come out and have a good time.

We are also running a Strava club that you should join right now! If you go to the Clubs section in Strava and type in Ski For Snow, our club will pop up and you can join it. You will then be part of the prep for our event as we're getting excited and be a part of the exclusive Strava raffles.

But why should you do it? You are probably a busy person and committing to being somewhere on a Saturday, instead of going out with friends is a lot to ask. Apart from donating to a great cause, registering for the event will enter you into some pretty awesome raffles. We've got some cool gear coming from Protect Our Winters, as well as gift cards from Gear West, really nice ski poles from Pioneer Midwest, wax kits from Toko, and lots of other amazing prizes! You are automatically entered into the raffles once you register for the event, and can purchase extra entries for $5. This event is going to be promoted on Olympic Gold medalist Jessie Diggins’ Instagram, which is pretty cool so make sure you follow us!

Mostly just come out, donate to a great event, and have some fun! The nordic skiing community is such a unique group and I think this is a great opportunity for us to harness that and make a real difference. We hope to see you out there!
