- Nordic Ski Instructor/Staff: Steamboat Ski Touring Center (Steamboat Springs, CO):
Steamboat Ski Touring Center in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is looking for an experienced cross country skier to join the winter staff this coming winter season. Duties would include teaching classic and skate lessons, xc retail, waxing, repair, some trail grooming. Steamboat Springs is a terrific ski town for both nordic and alpine. Minimum Qualifications: Current Valid MN Coaching Licensure, and
experience in the sport, or knowledge and experience necessary to coach the sport. Completion of 6-quarter credits or equivalent, or 60 clock hours of instruction in first aid and the care and prevention of athletic injuries, and completion of coaching methods or theory course.
Desirable Qualifications: Willingness to devote time to developing the
program, dependability and responsibility; able to travel with the team.

Provide District-wide Nordic ski instruction to the public in accordance with established standards by the Professional Ski Instructors of America and Three Rivers Park District in a manner that provides park guests with the highest quality service possible. Minimum 16 years of age. Ability to cross country, classic, skate, at an intermediate level or higher.

The right candidate should have a college degree, coaching skills and experience, and ski racing experience at the collegiate level or equivalent.

This position is responsible for recruiting and managing the coaches for the Snowflake KidSki program. XC skiers and cyclists in Wisconsin are suffering the loss of Gregg Bednorski, Wausau, WI, last Thursday in a cycling accident. Bednorski had finished 127th in last weekend's Chequamegon 40.

American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation Annual Meeting Aug 9th

The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation 2008 Annual Meeting will be held on August 9, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cable Community Center.
Terms for five of the Board members expire this year and an election will be held at the annual meeting and dinner at the Cable Community Center beginning at 6 p.m. You must be a foundation member by July 10, to be eligible to vote.

Big May Snowfall for Tierra del Fuego

Reports are rolling in of upwards of three feet of snow in parts of the Tierra del Fuego area of Argentina, marking it one of the earliest snow seasons in the more than five years. SkiFire is offering skiing vacation packages for August.

More than 90 people attended this year's Minnesota Nordic Ski Association (MNSA)/Minnesota Skinnyski Series (MiSSeries) Banquet. Held at the Midtown Global Market in Minneapolis, attendees enjoyed the MiSSeries awards presentation, a moving presentation of the MNSA lifetime achievement awards and the Market's excellent international cuisine.

The Skier Gala Sunday evening at the U of M alumni center drew over 100 attendees as Ahvo Taipale was honored for his coaching role in the championship teams of the mid 80s. Catlin Compton and Garrott Kuzzy shared experiences from their international racing this past winter and US Ski Team coach Pete Vordenberg capped the evening with a presentation on progress, partnership and teamwork.

Minnesota Skinnyski Series Age Group Awards Ready for Banquet

The Minnesota Skinnyski Series is just a week away and preparations are on schedule. Returning this season, the top skiers in each age group category will receive a personalized mug – complete with a picture of the award winner racing to their Series’ victory. Noted Skiing Journalist Paul Robbins Dies

Internationally recognized ski and travel journalist Paul Robbins, a wordsmith and historian for the U.S. Ski Team for 30 years, died Saturday at his home in Vermont.
Paul Walker Passes Away

Paul Walker, avid cyclist and skier, well known for his generous work on his Goat Farm trail system, passed away on Monday. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday in Wautoma.
CXC Fundraising Drive

Concern over Wisconsin State Trails Council Proposal

If Wisconsin Assembly Bill 600 becomes law it will make significant changes in the composition of the Governor's State Trails Council which represents all types of trail recreation in Wisconsin. In particular, the bill will require representation of four motorized user groups while not requiring any representation of silent sports.
Health Updates: Bert Kleerup Passes Away

The sad news came in today that Bert Kleerup, one of the founders of Eagle River Nordic, passed away. Funeral services will be held Friday in Eagle River. On a positive note, Nikolai Anikin Jr is reporting his father appears to be doing well in his cancer fight.
