Updates on upcoming events ...

  • Dec 20 Holiday Relays (Minneapolis, MN)  Check trail reports
    • Dec 18 update:
The course looks good. It has some nice hills and corners. 1.5 K per lap X 2 per skier (map). The start area has adequate space to accommodate a lap lane and an exchange/finish lane. After completing each lap they will make the turn at the east end of the start area, and then head back out for the second lap, or to the the exchange/ finish chute. It should be a good race, with lots of viewing areas for the spectators. Parking: Buses are allowed to park in the main lot by the chalet, and have been instructed to do so. The Par 3 lot will probably fill early.
      - John Strand
    • Dec 14 update:
Organizers are monitoring the snowmaking progress at Theodore Wirth. They need roughly a 1.5K course to run the relays, and as of last week, the snowmaking trail groomed out was about 1K. They are hopeful that with the return of cold weather this week, snowmaking can resume and a course can be prepped in time for the races Saturday. Registration is still open, but high demand could close that early - don't delay.

  • Dec 20 Skinny Santa Solstice Ski (Elk River, MN)  Check trail reports
    • Dec 16 update:
Not nearly enough snow on Monday, the race is now officially cancelled.
      - Bruce Adelsman
    • Dec 14 update:
It looks like we will have to cancel the Skinny Santa this year. Unless we get 6-8 inches tonight/tomorrow, we won't be able to race at Woodlands. It looks like the storm is going to fall as rain instead of snow so chances are very slim at this point. We will be making the final call on Tuesday/Wednesday. Fingers are crossed but the forecast isn't looking promising.
      - Kirstin Anderson
  • Dec 20 Michigan Tech CCSA/JNQ (Houghton, MI)  Check trail reports

    • Dec 19 update:
Updates from Houghton JNQ. Entry list posted, along with Saturday and Sunday course maps. Start list coming later tonight.
      - Bruce Adelsman
    • Dec 17 update:
A new detailed schedule has been posted on the website. Start lists will be posted on the web on Friday after the coaches meeting (which starts at 7 pm) and also on superiortiming.com. We have received about 10" of snow over the last 36 hours. The base is solid (it was 6" prior to the new snow, so is probably something like 10" now). The groomers tilled in the new stuff this morning and will do so again tomorrow morning. Predicted lows are in the teens. Race day highs are right around 30 degrees. Should be a great weekend for skiing.
      - Dean Woodbeck
    • Dec 15 update:
We have a solid 6" base at the trails and the temperatures will begin dropping tonight. There is snow on the way starting tonight, as well, continuing through Wedensday (anywhere from 3-8" according to the National Weather Service). The groomers are letting things alone for now, will roll the trails tomorrow when it is cold again, and then begin tilling on Wednesday to work in the new snow. The races are on and we're anticipating excellent conditions this weekend. Note: Registration closes Tuesday night!

  • Dec 20 John Hugus Invite (Wausau, WI)  Check trail reports
    • Dec 16 update:
Organizers report the race is still on, but the format has changed to be a freestyle technique only (no classical race). Read the full press release.
      - Bruce Adelsman
    • Dec 15 update:
Organizers are reporting as of Monday evening, there was still a good 1.2K loop with a thick base for the weekend races. There is a chance the race distances, and perhaps the race format, may be changed to accommodation the shorter layout. They plan to evaluate further on Tuesday and hope to have things clear by Wednesday. Read the full press release.

Just a reminder to get your ME Invite registration done before Christmas break. Also, please RSVP if you will be attending the ME Spaghetti Feed at the Biwabik Park Pavilion in Biwabik Friday night before the race. We'd love to have your team participate. We received about 3" of snow yesterday and I did see the high school groomer out on course with the snowmobile grooming this morning. I will try to get an up-date on the trails and let you know how it's going in the next week or so.
      - Deb Maki
