Mt. Borah Epic hosts 500 racers, new course records

Hayward, WI.  Nearly 500 racers participated in the second annual Mt. Borah Epic this past Saturday, May 31.  The 34 and 17-mile point-to-point hosted experienced fields with bone-dry conditions, allowing racers to set their top mark on the Cable to Hayward single-track racecourse.

Rotem Ishay of Team Jamis (Durango, CO) and Sara Kylander-Johnson (Duluth, MN) powered to the men’s and women’s overall titles for the Epic, while Jason Ruesch and Cindy Bijold sealed the top spots for the first annual Half Epic.

Ishay clocked a time of 2:17.45, setting a new course record and topping his long-time teammate Jason Sager by nearly 4 minutes under last year’s winning time.  Kylander-Johnson also captured a repeat title and bested her own course record by 5 minutes.

About the Epic

The Mt. Borah Epic, founded in 2013, pays tribute to the trails by donating 100% of race profits to CAMBA, otherwise known as the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association.

CAMBA has built and continues to maintain over 100 miles of pristine single-track trail, coating the northwest Wisconsin area, a place where many outdoor endurance athletes flock year-round for premium recreation, exercise and events.
