Skinnyski.com High School Rankings - Final

February 7, 2016

Commentary:

Hannah Rudd, Section 6, February 1, 2016
Peaking -- this time of the year, its all about who is peaking.  The conference championships the previous week gave some hints on that, and now sections last week helped validate it.  Hanna Torvi, Roseville, Claire Benton, Hopkins, Jack Christianson, Mounds View, and Anja Maijala, C-E-C, are some of the skiers who have hot skis heading into the State Meet.  The final set of rankings is biased on late season performance, and there was a lot of juggling for this last round.  For the girls, the top three remain solid, with Hannah Rudd in a near tie for first with Margie Freed.   But is a very talented pool, going deeper than the top 10, and if we kept racing for another month, I'm sure that list would keep rotating.   The boys group almost identical, with the top three of Zak Ketterson, Xavier Mansfield, and Anders Sonnesyn, the best of the bunch (and honestly, Zak Ketterson is still in a league of his own).

Unlike most seasons, this year has not really produced that one dominate team.  The Robbinsdale-Armstrong girls are the closest to achieving that, but Wayzata isn't ready to concede, and I'm sure Ely and Stillwater hope to have their shot.  The boys field has been more fluid. The Wayzata boys, a young group, have been getting better and better, and we bump them up to #1 for the final set.  After that, its really wide open -- any of those next 3-5 teams could be tossed in a hat and pulled out in a better order.

Thanks to those that sent in the comments this season, especially those that were a little less biased (hint - not cheerleading for their own offspring).   A number of times those comments help shed some light on performances we had overlooked.   Watch for our State Meet Preview (and predictions) coming out on Wednesday.
