    • Mar 23 - Floyds Sugarbush Buffalo Crust Tour (Richwood):

      Conditions: Fantastic Crust Cruising.
I needed to get to Detroit Lakes today to pick up a vehicle and since I did not have a way in beside my bike or skis, I chose to ski in. By vehicle the route is about 21 miles. With the fields and lakes covered with a beautiful crust, to me it was a no brainer. (The folks that turned their heads as I passed by thought otherwise I am sure but it was prety incredible). I started on Little Sugarbush, cut up to the public access, ditch skied to a field that took me to a pond that led to a bootleg snowmobile trai.... that led me nicely to Buffalo lake, across the lake...up the bank to a field near the Anderson gravel pits, checked out some cornices that broke off, ditch skied for too long until hitting some more fields that unexpectedly brought me to Little Floyd lake...across the lake near Ironman golf course. Through some marshy stuff that was sketchy...found some decent crust in the middle....snowmobile trail to the outskirts of town that led me nicely to a alley that brought me smack dab to DL. Wow, what a crazy ski. Super fun. I cut off at least 3 miles to start but with the zig zagging back and forth I figured the ski was a wash compared to driving that put me at 22 miles for the day.
