Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 1 to 10 of 18    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Sunday, April 9, 2023
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Skied Saturday and Sunday. Trails have not been groomed in a long time. Much of the trail was like slush. But still firm and pretty fast in some places. Probably the last ski of the season.

9 am. Perfect timing. Trails were firm to icy. But just soft enough to get an edge. Lots of tracks from dogs/walkers. But able to glide right over most. Really fast. Lucked out on timing.

Skate trails up on the north end were groomed. But all the wind created drifts and sections where you could not see the trail. Cold and windy. Trail is good where snow hasn't drifted.

Skied the north skating trails. Just starting to snow and trails had some drifting. Otherwise trail was good and recently groomed. Good shape for March.

Afternoon

Groomed and in fairly good condition. Dog not on leash took me down at the knees when I was going full speed in tracks downhill (against park rules).

Good and fast conditions this morning. A little bit icy in spots but overall the trails were good to OK. Lots of walker traffic and footprints frozen. Creates some uneven conditions. Yesterday I made first tracks and the trail was soft. Firmer and faster today but used by dogs, deer and hikers.

Sometimes you get lucky. After the day of rain earlier this week I was thinking fat bike. But after checking trails I went for a skate. Luckily groomer was able to get just enough snow/ice to make the trails skiable. I waited till 11am. Super fast and fun. Little icy of course. But overall. Awesome. One of the best days this season.

North section was great for skating. Several others out skating on the fast trails. Trails are getting beat up from walkers. Need a groom. The lot south in the woods was full of cars. Busy Super Bowl Sunday.

Trails were in good shape. Soft where they were recently groomed. Fast and a bit icy in others. Lots of sticks and leaves on the wooded trail portion. May not want your best skis.
